What do you think?

1 think that Kobe has said is that he wasn't the tallest, fastest, most athletic, has weren't that big, but he worked on his inabilities. Strengthen his self to boost his speed and athleticism. Did hand exercises to strengthen his hands. He worked on ways to be the most effective, with his body type. That's 1 reason why he studied Mike (amongst others; Jerry West, Magic, Oscar Robertson, his father). Kobe built himself into a generational talent through work ethic, and nourished his skills.

I'm not comparing him to Kobe. I'm talking about how Kobe talked about enhancing his ability and referencing it to possibly AR enhancing his, in order to become better.

Austin Reaves, (without jumping out the window and overreacting to his great play on both sides), he seems to have great IQ. He makes the simple and easy pass, seems to read the offense well. He is a really good defender. Can shoot, tough..... when he comes in, the team seems to be better, but he isn't the fastest, most athletic, not the tallest, strongest, though he seems to have high work ethic.

With working on his game, lifting weights to get stronger. Reps/Experience, what do you think is his ceiling?

It will be hard, but I am rooting hard for the kid
What he is missing is athletic ability, but there are obviously success stories before without that. ALa steve Nash of the world. I hope he can improve his shooting, he is pretty solid now, but need to go to the next level to be in the star conversation. I think people say shooting is the missing link to THT’s stardom, but reaves at this moment has a better shooting stroke compare to THT

This thread reminds me of the LG poster who wanted to "groom" AD and Malik Monk into the next Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.

No, because I'm not comparing to any player or hoping he becomes a player. I asked can he become a superstar or what is his ceiling.

If he can match Caruso's impact, I'd be a very happy camper.

JJ Reddick - he's already getting more run than Reddick did as a rookie.

Racial assumptions aside, the guy has already shown he has a motor and looks like he can process the speed of the game. His future will depend on whether or not he can knock down shots.

He has decent size for a 2, average athleticism - but he won't impact the game enough unless he's an offensive threat.

So you think asking if Malik Monk can become the next Jamal Murray is significantly different than asking if Austin Reaves can become the next NBA superstar?

a H.B. Tyler Herro lol. That's his ceiling.

Just needs a new hairstyle and some swag in his socks. Maybe a shooting sleeve will do it.

I think that's about right as a ceiling.

He’s making plays as a rookie. He doesn’t look overwhelmed physically. Seems to get his hands in the passing lanes and comes up with those momentum changing defensive plays.

Seems to have sneaky athleticism. Seems to me that the Lakers have a player here. Seems to make more of an impact than THT made last year, at least so far. Pretty good find.

If he can become like Luke Walton was, for an undrafted player, that's great.

But I'm hoping he can be more than that. A top 8 rotation level player would be awesome. I'd expect his body to be more filled out through the year and next, and he'll be more confident. He just plays smartly and doesn't make too many stupid mistakes.

I'd say he's already pretty close to his ceiling. Just more of what you've been seeing in a slightly bigger role.

HBK is having a "Carpe diem" moment. Nothing to lose, everything to gain.
Anything he gives us this season is gravy because no one expected him to contribute, initially, at all.

For an undrafted rookie he has been a very pleasant surprise and a valuable contributor.
He is an underdog who is beating the odds. It's a great story-line.

In short, the kid lays it all on the line, all the time. AR just knows how to fundamentally play basketball the right way.

why not? i'd love to have a player who's hated by rest of the league on my team, which means he's doing his job getting under opponents' skin.
