Not surprising at all, and I would bet there are way more out there than the ones listed on the site. He was genuinely a worldwide icon and brand ambassador. Dude was more popular than Yao Ming in China during Yao's peak. When Pelinka was introduced as GM a couple years ago, he mentioned seeing Kobe jerseys in war-torn and impoverished countries. And most of this was when social media wasn't such a big thing, which makes it more impressive. In contrast, Lebron doesn't even have close to the same pull worldwide, even with a large portion of the media, politicians and celebrities backing him. |
