His team dominated the sport during the 90's and was the gold standard back then.

Yep and with Adrian Newey as chief designer.

Sad that Senna died in the 94 car though.

My F1 era was the late 80s, early to mid 90s. That's when Williams, along with McLaren, was dominant. And then Schumacher started dominating, Williams declined, and I lost interest.

RIP

I saw a Modern Marvels on racing safety history that showed some nasty wrecks. They covered Fireball Roberts, the Dale Earnhardt of the 50s/60s. Guess how he died. He refused to wear optional fire resistant clothes of the day and wore cotton instead. Earnhardt not wearing the HANS device was an echo of the past.

No doubt all racing has gotten safer. Of the major series, Indycar is still considered the most dangerous, then F1, and Nascar. Stock cars are fully boxed in so there is less risk of fatality due to an accident - even if the rate of crashes is higher. The Halo in F1 has been a real revelation in terms of safety for drivers. Would hate to imagine a different outcome to Grosjean's fireball in 2020. Bahrain 2020 - Grosjean's crash

That was just a really bad weekend. They dodged a fatality for 12 years until San Marino 1994. 2 fatalities, another sent to the coma and a tire bouncing around in pitlane. It was a huge wakeup call to the sport and safety has come really far.

I know I said above that I've lost interest in F1, but I did watch some races this year. Holy (bleep), what a final race, what a final lap today. Verstappen overtakes Hamilton on the very last lap of the last race and wins the title. There is some controversy about some things that happened earlier, but that has to be most thrilling final lap in F1 history.

Agreed the ending was BS but Verstappen is a worthy champ.

If Hamilton didn't take out Max in Silverstone it wouldn't even be this close.

And they had a chance to make a pit stop and change to softs like what RB did, but they decided not to. Even LH was questioning on the on-board radio if they made the right call.
