They are an outstanding team with Gobert, but an average team without him. His presence in the lane makes all the difference in the world.

So the key to beating them is doing what the Clippers did in the playoffs, which is going small and making Gobert defend the 3pt line. That way the lane opens up.

The above, of course, requires some semblance of basketball IQ and execution.

They may let a few choice Lakers fire away from 3’s to see if we
can hit them. If we are cold, that lane is closed.

He's by FAR, FAR their most important player. Mitchell would be a distant second. I was lambasting him for getting played off the court in the playoffs but their perimeter players are worse than even ours in terms of staying in front of their guys. Gobert was defending multiple people on every possession. Mitchell is f'en HORRIFIC on defense.

As much as I would love us to win , I just don't see it. We are just not the team ready to play against good well coached teams at this moment.

I'm actually excited we're starting to play good teams now. At least the losses will mean something

The only thing in doubt to me of this game is whether the eventual margin of defeat is over or under 30.

Further, Utah dropped like 20 some spots in defensive efficiency rankings after Gobert went out. His impact on that end is damn near historic. In other words, all of the Jazz's championship hopes solely rest on him and not Mitchell. That Tyron Lue figured this out and beat them without his superstar player is impressive.

It's crazy how important defensive-minded 5s are in today's game. The Warriors, who were playing historically well on defense, continue to collapse defensively with Green out. They dropped 10 spots without him.

That's exactly why I've said we still have hopes if AD was healthy playing like a DPOY. That might give the Lakers the biggest turnaround. I think our biggest problem this season is missing DPOY AD's presence in the middle. So far, AD hasn't looked like a DPOY in any game this season.

Lebron holding the ball top of the key against Gobert for 10 seconds and jack up a 3 offense can't happen....
teams with a traditional center against a small ball lineup is usually having matchup issues on defense when play man, but when Lebron holds the ball on top of the key against that center, they are basically giving a free shot to Lebron instead of a breakdown on defense and give up an open shot to a shooter (see how Terrance Man in the playoffs)

“They will be better.”

Instead of a 37 point loss, they will fight their way to a 20 point loss.

i don't see AB has any issues. it is the entire system. we are playing the same defense as the past 2 years, but that's not going to work with this group of guys.
Vogel should really go back to play big and less switching.

if you thought that denver blowout was bad, you ain't seen nothing yet. we might go out and mess around with the nba record for biggest deficit in a defeat. OKC thunder is shaking.
