This has to go down as MK's worse trade of all time.
You wonder how Kobe & PJ can win a single game with this load of garbage -- Kwame, Smush, Sasha et.al. |

Chucky Atkins may be bad, but he's still light years ahead of Sasha. With Caron and Chucky this is a much better team. Mitch F up royally by giving up the teams most valuable trade commodity for a pile of expensive crap in Kwame. I think at this point even Isiah is not stupid enough to trade for Kwame. _________________ Ringo "You retired too?"

this team makes me wish Chucky Atkins was still a Laker. This team is that bad. _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. he needs to keep it up. At this rate, turiaf will be taking his minutes very soon and maybe even bynum. |

I think we can wait to the end of the season before we decide whether this team is better than last years. Personally, I think this year's team is better than last years. As far as Kwame, he sucked up royal tonight and knowing what I know now I wouldn't have made that trade... at least not at that price tag. However, where spiked with him for 1 more season so we have to hope for the best in the mean time. |

you are right...this could be a blessing in disguise...if kwame keeping playing like a 2 yr old, phil will have to play the players who are better than he is (cook, ronny, bynum) _________________ Lakers in '08.

I was against the move in the first place, but started to buy into it with all the surrounding elements. I never thought he was good enough for Butler, but the Lakers really had a lot of things ON PAPER going for them. He is a young atheletic big man that gets to work with Kareem (hopefully) and doesn't have to do more than defend in the post and put back Kobe's misses. It is not like they are asking him to be the focal point of their young team they are building (Washington), and somehow Kwame looks like he is cracking under the LA pressure more than Washington's. I keep wanting to believe this guy will turn around, but at this point is he just asking to be traded next year? If so, with the way he is playing the only way he doesn't wear the Purple and Gold is if they pay his contract cut him. We are stuck for the next 2 years so we've got to make the most of it, just a shame that the best news so far is that the 3rd year isn't garunteed. |

I remember reading a KAJ interview where he said Kwame was not working with him because he didn't see himself as a back-to-basket player...IIRC, this was before Phil used him more as a backup center than a starting PF...because right now, he's "officialy" a center, so there's no excuses...damn it, how in the hell can a big man in the league REFUSE to learn from Kareem??? _________________ "A mind is like a parachute. He doesn't look comfortable with that shoulder strap, but still like him on this team. |

This guy is a joke.
Given those minutes, I don't think Bynum could ever pull out a worse performance than that. At this point get what you can out of Kwame.. send him on Gatorade missions for the rest of the team. |

Hindsight is clearly 20/20, but I can't lay all the blame on Mitch for this one. Most of this board clearly supported the deal at the time, as did numerous other Lakers fans who I talked to.
Kwame Brown is 7 feet tall, young and had enough raw potential to be the top pick in a draft. Caron Butler is a good player, but players like him are a dime a dozen. Chucky Atkins doesn't even merit consideration in the discussion.
The combination of raw talent, Phil Jackson, Kobe Bryant and the chance to put his horrible Wizard years behind him made Kwame seem like a risk well worth taking.
It's clear now that he'll never be more than a journeyman. But still is was a chance that the Lakers had to take. |

Yes, hindsight is 20-20, but it sure would have been interesting to see what PJ could have done with Caron, Chucky and Jumaine Jones.
C - Mihm/Bynum
PF - Odom/Cook/Turiaf
SF - Butler/Jones
OG - Kobe/George
PG - Chucky/Smush/Sasha
We would have been a much more passionate/fiery/energetic team with Kobe, Caron, Ronny, Jumaine and Devean. Of course, if that was our roster, we'd still have problems...
- Odom gets into foul trouble at the 4
- With Mihm's foul troubles, we wouldn't have the luxury of bringing Bynum along slowly - like we're doing this year. Either that, or Cook would see significant minutes at center. Eeew.
- Chucky's D
Kwame plays great D against the big, powerful big's (Shaq, Yao), but he struggles against everyone else. Of course, it's easy to say this now, but Caron would have been REAL nice as our 2nd option. _________________ Everything. Changes. |
