Very simple, yes or no?

He should have been in 2002 for just about getting us beat vs. the Kings because of his lackluster bench.

Yes, though it isn't entirely his fault. Mitch was constrained by Buss' vision, which in turn was probably too "financially engineered". I've always maintained that it was up to Mitch to sell Dr. Buss on the long-term health of the team. Either he failed as a communicator (which is part of his job), or he's a "Yes Man".

Though we may have had the best draft in years, it's time to review the scouting system as well. I hope they bring in an outsider, with a good network of scouts on the grass roots level.

Sorry I didn't do the poll function right guys, but it is pretty overwhelming that many here agree with me that Kupchak needs to go.

Pull a Rambis, reassign him within the organization and let's move on with Sam Presti or Kiki V

Thoughts?

Mitch needs to go? Has he even arrived? It's been several seasons and he still hasn't made any great moves.

Mitchell seems like a nice man(although he has the speaking personality of a math professor) I say assign the guy to the scouting department in Iceland or something, but this is a yes or no question so my answer is

Yes

Yes, and this is coming from someone who's defended him the last three years. When I look at the talent we could've had, even without Shaq, if he'd been a better talent evaluator I just throw up my hands and say, "Enough is enough".

It's time for someone with a new vision and some creativity to take over the reins. Time for Mitch and his entire staff to be swept aside.

We're counting on you Jimmy! If you can talk daddy into hiring a coach from outside the Laker circle, then convince him to hire a GM as well.

The people who are going to answer "No" to this question have already gotten tired of the endless Mitch bashing threads. The responses to Ziggy's post are a good illustration of why we don't bother to discuss the topic very often. Mitch is a convenient scapegoat for the people who just can't accept that rebuilding is a necessity and who are all convinced that they know exactly which decisions will turn us into a contender. Rational discussion is futile because that crowd will ignore any argument based on facts or logic.

a lot of people think some of this criticism isn't fair?

well too bad. it comes with the territory. nobody forced him at gunpoint to take this job. he took it.

therefore, he has to be able to live up to the expectations that being the GM of the LA Lakers demands.

oh boohoo.. it's not fair.

screw that. if he doesn't like it.. then either

a. do a better job

or

b. get lost

people would die to have his job.

I've had GM training on XBox. And I assure you that I would have the Lakers in better position right now. GM is not that hard a job. Most on this board could outdo Mitch. It's pretty simple. Get value, trade value for value, hell go on fanstasy stats and you'd outdo Mitch. He traded our best bench player for peanuts, he trading our 2nd best scorer for trash who will be 3rd string behind Cook and Turiaf at PF soon...

He wasn't asking which of the two should be done, he was asking should one of the two be done. Use your head before bashing next time.

I haven't heard a single good reason to keep Mitch Kupchak around, so no, there really isn't any good reason for him to still be making decisions in the front office. It will be two years since they started rebuilding and Kupchak hasn't improved the roster at all since that date (July 04). That's pathetic and unacceptable no matter what BS excuses some fake Laker homer wants to conjure up.
