He knows the Triangle, having played for Jim Cleamons in Dallas.

Even last year when Jackson was actually in the Suns rotation he was terrible. He had a -9.8 NET On Court/Off Court effect which is about as bad as it gets.

In comparison our worst current NET effect player in the rotation is Kwame with -6.9.

Jackson is finished.

OK... so let's say Jackson signs for the Lakers... are all you people that rip Mitch, going to give him props for the signing?

What if JJ sucks?

My money's on, those same people will be ripping Mitch for signing Jim Jackson.

This Laker bench is done/pathetic so what difference does it make?

Seriously, if we get JJ, he won't hurt us...regardless of his stats, age, whatever. I think he could actually help. Why do people complain about getting him, it's not like our team has "chemistry" right now anyway.

Yup! I'll give him his props, JD. But at the same time, I won't necessarily be singing his praises either. I feel like it would be a last ditch effort to save face before the off-season. Jimmy Jackson could provide that consistent bench player this team needs (assuming he's injury free).

What bothers me is that more than half the season is gone and if a player like Jimmy Jackson were to be signed and prove to be the most consistent off the bench, then what does that say about the rest of the team that Kupchak has put together?

Shoes, didn't JJ play in some "semblence" of the triangle while he was in Dallas under Jim Cleamons?

I won't rip Mitch if he signs Jackson, I want him to. I don't expect much from Jackson so I'm not going to blast him if he doesn't do much. I do think Jackson can help. The way I look at it, Slava isn't helping so why not try to get something out of Jackson? He is another body who can occasionally get hot and cause some problems for the D.

The triangle is know for reviving dying careers. I suppose some kind of change has to happen. It may only be for this season, but I wouldn't be opposed to waiving Slava and signing someone.

Bingo!

Thats the key for me. If the Triangle was able to make Brian Shaw, Ron Harper, and others decent contributers, why not give JJ a try?

What do you have to lose? If he doesn't work out, you bench him the rest of the way, leave him off the playoff roster. It's not going to cost much.

Geez, sometimes I feel like I gotta' hand out valium around here...

The pathetic thing is that a 35 year old, waiver wire player would be (at worst) our 4th best player if he joined the team

Penny has no triangle experience. He has played four games this season. I don't see much hope that he can help the Lakers.

JJ is more like a SF more than a backcourt player though... we have Odom/George/Walton at SF... Penny is more like a SG recently, but he played PG in Orlando before... since PJ said triangle offense should not be a problem, Penny should be a better fit...

why are people so against signing jj or even penny. We have nothing to lose. At worst we'll miss the playoffs, which we're already on track to do. At best we'll actually give the team a shot to make it.

Its not like we'll give the guy a five year 20 million dollar deal.

Fact is this team needs help bad. If we can get someone who can even remotely threaten smush "no D" parker's minutes, I say that in of itself would be a success :\

JJ would have been great 3-4 years ago. His game has gone south. Frankly, at this point, getting JJ will be strictly a PR move to give the fans the appearance of the FO actually going forth and doing something. It's a little too late for that. They foolishly let those ending contracts rot, and die on the vine.

It really is inexcusable. Has the FO even gotten an entire game's worth of minutes combined from its last two MLE signings?

As I've said many times before: at a certain point, bad luck becomes a function of incompetence.

SGH

do you really have that high of opinion on this laker team? when you actually look at the crap that surrounds kobe, neither jackson or penny looks that bad. at least they're veterans who you know they can shoot in in-game situations.

hardaway/smush
bryant/jackson/hardaway
jackson/odom/cook
odom/cook/turiaf/brown
mihm/brown/bynum

isn't bad at all and much better than what we got right now.

Actually, we Don't know if they can shoot anymore. We haven't seen them play in a long time. They aren't likely to make the dumb mistakes of the young'uns, but if they can't hit the open shot...
