Ouch.

Quote:

"They stink," Jackson said. "They know that they were all bad and they have to pick it up another level. They have to assume responsibilities about being professional."

Odom as Debbie Downer:

"The way we're playing," Lamar Odom said, "we don't have a shot in hell to beat a team like Detroit or San Antonio ... the guys that are going to make it hard."

Phil talking about Kwame, but not saying his name:
Quote:

"That's just kids," Jackson said. "Kids feel they have to score to be involved in the game. That's what you have to get across to them in the final picture that it's about defense and stopping people and taking away their rhythm in the game."

Phil saying Lamar is a

Quote:

Spread his wings: Jackson was asked after Wednesday's loss about Odom recognizing he needed to play a leading role with Bryant under the weather. Odom said he was "embarrassed" that Bryant needed to score 35 points to keep the Lakers in the game.

"You can't suddenly make a scorer out of a guy that's not thinking about scoring," Jackson said. "We have to face facts. Lamar is trying to get going out there and do the things he has to do and it's just not natural for him. We can't anticipate that suddenly chrysalis is going to happen, he's going to become a butterfly."

Here is a sneak preview of Sundays edition of the Times....it's lengthy one on one w/ LO...about life on and off the court...

Quote:

Q: How do you like your steak?

Lamar: "Ever since they found Mad Cow Disease in the U.S., I'm not taking any chances. It can live in your body for years, before it ravages your brain."

Q: Do you see your scoring output increasing w/ the way defenses are keying in on Kobe?

Lamar: "Umm I'm not sure..Do you care about that train explosion in North Korea?"

Q: What's your favorite theme park?

Lamar: "Disneyland, for sure....Boy, it must be fun to work here.. although, the biggest drawback to working in a theme park is that you must live in constant fear of deadly terrorist attacks."

Q: What do you wish for?

Lamar: "If I had a wish, I'd wish they'd release the British hostage in Iraq."

Q: Will you be attending the Jeanie Buss organized Casino Night this year at the Santa Monica Barker Hangar?

Lamar: "I don't know...but I do know about Hurricane Jeanie...The latest in a string of deadly storms that left thousands of Floridians homeless. They're still counting the fatalities in Haiti. "

Q: How do you review your grasp of the triangle offense thus far in the season?

Lamar: "Oh it's been ok...speaking of reviews, I haven't been able to read a movie review since the untimely passing of Gene Siskel. "

Q: I bet one of your favorite parts of living in the Marina is all that wonderful seafood..

Lamar: "Actually, the doctor said if I don't cut down on my consumption of fresh fish, my mercury level will reach toxic proportions."

Q: What's your favorite fruit?

Lamar: "Definitely bananas.... if I don't get enough potassium every day, I awaken in the middle of the night by crippling leg cramps."

Q: Where can we find Lamar Odom on a Sunday afternoon?

Lamar: "Probably the park...but I'm going to lather up the sunscreen. I had a mole looked at recently, and the doctor told me that, due to the extent of its irregular borders, I'm flirting with a melanoma. "

Q: A 13 year old online reader from Kenya named Aba wrote in to ask you what your message was to kids in Africa looking to develop as basketball players..

Lamar: "Ummm...steer clear of The Sudan. It makes Fallujah look like Club Med."

Q: Give us a final thought Lamar..

Lamar: "They never did catch that anthrax guy. "

That funny thing is the Golden state Warriors are going to be trampled...
However, Detroit is going to kill us and, not just because, they are a better team but, because they are on the back end of a "back to back"

Or...

They will be all excited about Detroit and, forget to concentrate on whoopin Golden State.

We can't have both...

saying that your battered and confidence-lacking players 'stink' is hardly what i'd call coaching, and definitely not worth 10 million dollars a year.

phil just isn't the right coach for this bunch. he's great at ensuring that veteran teams don't underachieve, by keeping them motivated. but he can't handle young, inexperienced and limited players who need much more handholding and instruction.

Reminds me of the Japanese groundskeepers in Major League.

Way to pass the buck Phil!

Maybe if you coach better, they won't stink as much.

Well, to Phil's credit, he apparently predicted the exact play Blake and Randolph ran in the timeout before it happened, and warned Kobe and Cook on how they should play it, then they both ignored him and let Blake score anyway.

Coach all you want, but if the players aren't listening it won't do much good.

This team has character and maturity issues. They appear to be indifferent to defeat, and have realized that their paycheck arrives regardless of whether they defend. I wouldn't blame Phil for that, I'd blame the front office for having assembled these misfits.

I agree. Players make the mistakes on the floor. But where's the accountability on the coaching staff? They cannot lay all the blame on players. Odd substitutions, stupid fouls/TO's at the end of games, lack of energy after halftime, poor team chemistry, etc - seems like coaching issues to me.

Yet again PJ comes out with we are trying to utilize LO yet he just cant grasp it. PJ's fault? Only to the LO jockers

LO comes out YET AGAIN ...AFTER THE FACT. Not while its happening, not when something can actually be done, not during the battle, not when a game can be won, ...after the fact. Thats our boy

The Lakers have what it takes to make the playoffs.

They are young and don't really play with consistent intensity. Especially on defense.

I would be suprised if they didn't get on a win streak before the end of the season.

You would think that with guys like Kwame an Smush, they would be out to prove something and that one thing that WOULD be there would be consistent intensity.

Kwame trying to prove he isn't a bust, and Smush trying to prove that he deserves to stick on an NBA roster after a few years of being bounced around.

Kwame has millions. He is set for life. I'm sure he wants to play but proving himself as a basketball player isn't a huge thing to him it seems.

Parker is starting. I mean what else could he have asked for? Smush has overachieved and given us a starting job we didn't anticipate from him. I can't be mad at Smush. He is a steal for us.
