Despite a strong performance from an ill Kobe Bryant, the Los Angeles Lakers couldn't avoid a loss to woeful Portland in their last outing.
This season, even a big game from a healthy Bryant often isn't enough to bring the Lakers a victory.
Los Angeles looks to avoid falling below the .500 mark when it take on the Golden State Warriors in the teams' third meeting of 2005-06.
Battling the flu, Bryant still managed to score 35 points, but Los Angeles lost 99-93 on the road to the Trail Blazers on Wednesday night for its third loss in four games.
Bryant missed 10 of his first 13 shots, but finished 15-of-15 from the free-throw line. He had 19 points during the third quarter, but the rest of the Lakers only managed four points in the period as Los Angeles was outscored 30-23.
"I'm just achy. You've got to push through it," Bryant said. "My teammates talked about doing a better job trying to pick me up sometimes and not having me shoulder the whole load all the time."
That's something the Lakers have been unable to do all season. Bryant averages 34.9 points per game, almost equal to the combined efforts of the team's next top three scorers. Lamar Odom, Smush Parker and Chris Mihm average 35.7 points.
"We don't play a good offensive game and we can't win," said Odom, who had 16 points Wednesday. "That puts Kobe in a bind. He's got to get 35 or 40 points for us to win. We should be embarrassed. I know I am."

i want to be optimistic but its time to get real with this team. even if jason rich doesn't play it will be a tough game............
as much as the realist in me says we'll lose, i really beleive in kobe (notice i said kobe, not the rest of the crappy teamates he has).
the lakers squeak this one out imo.
lakers without kobe = worse than the worst team in the nba. _________________ "I wish I could draw a picture of the look on their faces..... For a time, it was like he was on the court by himself. They've been quite lucky against the Golden State, but I don't think that would repeat. |

It is a must win. I think we actually beat the spurs and Pistons but we HAVE to go on another win streak of at least 5 games. We cant fight just to make 500, we have to fight to stay above it. For that
we win _________________ Lakers Tickets |

If we lose the season may be over as far as the playoffs. It's usually stupid to say that but this IS a must win. |

B Diddy and J Rich aren't playing?Well either way Lakers will win by a whopping 7 points. Kobe's teammates pick it up this game so he will chip in with 26 points and 7 assists. |

Kobe gets 31 with 7 assists.
The other guys ACTUALLY step up for this one though, most notably...Lamar Odom with a 15+pt, 10 rebound, 5 assist effort.
Most IMPORTANTLY, we WIN. _________________ Stephon Marbury on Kobe: "He's the only person on 'dis earth that can do 'dat. He guards people, like shuts 'em down. Then, to do 'dat on 'da offensive end. It's like 'Damn, I can't score on him AND he about to bust my ass."

If Jason Richardson and Baron Davis are out then I have to go with the Lakers in triple overtime. _________________ New Orleans Hornets superstar point guard Chris Paul is reportedly headed to the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster trade. |

I'm going to this one, so I'm hoping for a great Kobe performance and a win. We do seem to lose to a lot of teams with mediocre records tho. Sad really. I'll keep my hopes up. |

Lakers have to jump on them early, dominate the glass and hit a bunch of 3's to cover for their subpar D.
The Warriors are poor enough defensively where a bunch of Lakers can go off, so I believe the Lakers can actually take this one.
Lakers 110
Warriors 108
Kobe 44, 8, 7
Odom 17, 12, 5
Smush 21, 4, 4
Mihm 15, 11
Cook 15
George 13
Turiaf 5, 3, 2 blks |

Hopefully they dont fall in love with the 3..We play even worst when we settle for threes or become a jump shooting team _________________ I will HAVE SOME LOVE for Kwame..(keep it up big man) |

My prediction?
15 redundant threads that get sent to the Chicken Little Piss and Moan thread.
5 threads about how the Lakers should have kept Fisher
6 threads complaining about Odom, 6 threads defending him
12 threads blaming Mitch for something
20 threads screaming for JJ to be signed with someone posting every 5 minutes until it happens, regardless of whether or not the NBA Front Office is open or not.
This will be the case whether it's a win or a loss.
