Odom is not scottie pippen, or even close for that matter. One reason why is he is not a small forward. He is a power forward who wishes he was a guard. Tex Winters said long ago that he should be playing power forward and I certainly agree with him. Last year Odom played almost exclusively at the 4 and put up a respectable 17 and 10. He created mismatches every single night. However his defense at the 4 left alot to be desired. He was average at best. He plays pretty good position defense but he is not strong enough to hold his ground and not very intimidating around the basket. This is because he doesn't jump, he just stands there with his arms straight in air posing no threat to even the smallest of guards. Having said all of that his shortcomings at the 3 spot are even more apparent.
I believe Phil said he would experiment with Lamar at the 3 spot for the first month or so because that was his preferred position. After that deadline came he pushed it back for some unknown reason and never revisited it again. If we are lucky enough to acquire Jim Jackson he and Devean would definitely be able to hold down the 3 spot. Moving Lamar down to the 4 makes us better offensively and defensively, which if i'm not mistaken is the goal. It's time for Phil to man up and improve this team so that we can at least watch this team perform in the playoffs, be it only a round. Lamar doesn't fit this team but he is much better suited at the 4 then he is the 3 so lets move him there, make the playoffs, and trade his butt in the offseason. Go Lakers |
