OAKLAND – Right now, Kobe Bryant's face tells the tale of the Lakers' pain.

A case of sinusitis - an infection in his sinuses - has Bryant coughing, achy to the ears and puffy in the eyelids from the congestion. The illness has bothered Bryant since last week, and it's no coincidence the Lakers lost down-to-the-wire games to Boston and Portland with Bryant not delivering in the final minutes.

Bryant is expected to play tonight against Golden State, but he trudged away from practice to the team bus Thursday ahead of every teammate. Bryant had sat with the team around a TV set to watch film, but when the Lakers hit the court, Bryant sat by the door, often with his head bowed into his hand.

The Lakers' goal tonight is to pick Bryant up not by pitching in unusually with his scoring tasks, but as a united crew on defense.

The article also talks about our pitiyful pick'n roll defense

Quote:
Except for Brian Cook's hesitancy in jumping out at Portland's Steve Blake on one pivotal possession, Jackson saw improvement in the fourth quarter Wednesday. But he allowed that his team has had no consistency there: the Lakers' big men not confident their guards will funnel opposing guards the proper way or get over the picks, the Lakers' guards fearful no aggressive big-man help will force opposing guards out high and slow the plays.

Turiaf provides 10 minutes of a big spark and Smush steps it up on the offensive end.

That's been irritating me for years. They didn't defend it well even during the championship run.

Yup, and Kwame Brown is the worst culprit when we get eaten up on PnRs.

Kobe stepped up himself...but no worries, this team is built the right way, coached the right way.

I found the quote below from a guy on the ESPN BOARDS in Nor Cal:

Was at a bar called kels last night in sf and saw Kwame, turiaf, smush, and lamar hanging out trying to pick up on girls. Was a total suprise and thought it was funny. Kwame was acting pretty drunk, Turiaf was chillin (p.s- he is huge, literally a monster), Lamar looks a lot bigger in person, and smush was hitting on some blonde chick all night.

Damn NY duo.

Kobe gave his all tonight. He helped to establish Mihm early. Chris had 10 points in the first half. Cook also had 10 in the first half. Sasha had 8 rebounds and 4 assists to go with 5 points.
