Wow - the vegas line vs Detroit tonight has us only getting 5 points...do they know something I don't?

I mean, of course I would LOVE to see us win this game...but it's Detroit, the 2nd night of a back to back for us, and Kobe is sicker than a dog. I would have figured the line to be at least 9.

The line tends to favor the Lakers a bit, because people going to Las Vegas tend to be heavily an L.A. crowd. It has more to do with balancing the betting than it does anything else. People saw that Kobe scored 42 last night, so they probably don't think he is as sick as he was.

more like 17!!!

We need to play team ball if we are ever to beat detroit once and san Antonio 3 times... This is crucial and I am now scared... were only a half a game ahead of UTAh and I think we need to pull wins out of our A$$ in order to land this final playoff spot

The only way the Lakers lose by less than 5 is if all the Detroit starters miss the bus to Staples.

It's amazing how much star treatment the Detroit players get. Kobe got some when the Lakers were winning Championships, but Kobe was treated like a role player by the refs during the time of the trial. I'm convinced the NBA did not want the Lakers to win to keep Kobe out of the spotlight. Getting past the trial was a huge obstacle. Restoration has been a process. Kobe's burst into the highest profile player in the NBA has helped a little as has the scoring title lead. That 81 point game caught everyone's attention. Kobe is big business around the NBA. People come out to see Kobe play. If the NBA is smart they will instruct the refs to back off on the technicals. Kobe is a huge draw around the NBA. He's the captain of the team. A suspension would be bad for business.

Maybe it's just me but it seems like the refs have it out for Kobe and Phil.

The Lakers are a very heavy public team. Which usually would lead to lines not helping Lakers backers, Vegas knows people will still put money on LA simply because of the fan base. The OP thought the 5 point spread was not enough, so it's pretty much opposite. I think the line is perfectly normal though with a game in LA, Vegas is not normally looking to predict the final score as much as they are wanting balanced action on both sides for the juice.

That is a good line because most of the crowd in Vegas are pro-Lakers. The line in Detroit is probably 7.

I don't understand the psychology of Vegas sports line makers but I think 5 points are more than enough even against the Pistons. How often have the Lakers been blown out at home this season?

And the Pistons on the road are definitely beatable if you can outrebound them (while limiting their 2nd chance points) and defending well as a team.

The Lakers aren't garbage and they're capable of beating anyone in their building.

I meant the bookies in Detroit probably set the line at 7.

when we play well, we are a very good team, sadly we play well about 3/10 games

Maybe it's just me but I think the Pistons have been accepting teabags from refs around the league.
