Any way you look at it, the Lakers made a move today that improved their roster.

They filled an area of need at a very reasonable price. (I am laughing with that one -- because it may be a reasonable price in NBA terms, but not for my wallet)

Thanks for the memories Slava. But apart from some flashes of promise 2 years ago, ther snickers incident this year is more symbolic of what his time here in LA amounted to.

By the way - (Jim) Jackson must have moved us up on the list agewise across the league.

Well, even if he doesnt pan out, we dont lose a thing. We werent getting anything from slava and JJ can atleast add some experience. GOOD SIGN MITCH.

I cant see how this signing can hurt us, especially if it means Kobe can get some well earned rest. We needed a smart backcourt vet and thats what we got. After reading the opinions of the more respected posters i am pretty optimistic. Does anyone know when his first game will be?

for anyone here to say that JJ is not a good signing OBVIOUSLY is clueless with knowing the kind of roster we have.

JJ can hit shots.

JJ is an experienced veteren.

JJ doesn't lack confidence.

JJ knows how to play basketball.

In case anyone is interested, below is the JJ exchange from the Hollinger chat on ESPN.com

Jay (Burke, VA): John, the LA Times is the only one to report Jimmy Jackson to the Lakers...is it not finalized yet? And if it does, how much will he help? Thanks.

John Hollinger: (3:06 PM ET ) When I saw JJ with Phoenix earlier this year he looked D-U-N done. I'd be surprised if he has much to offer the Lakers.

DONE?

Done because he wasn't in the rotation this year...

Here are some stats from the 2004-2005 for those who want to know:
Nov 15 - 18 points
Nov 16 - 18 points
Nov 30 - 21 points
Dec 2 - 17 points
Dec 22 - 15 points
Dec 26 - 21 points
Jan 25 - 17 points
Jan 28 - 17 points
Mar 5 - 18 points
Mar 11 - 15 points
Mar 30 - 19 points
Apr 3 - 15 points
Apr 11 - 25 points - AGAINST THE LAKERS
Apr 12 - 20 points
Apr 29 - 17 points
May 1 - 19 points
May 13 - 17 points
Mary 18 - 21 points
May 20 - 16 points
May 22 - 20 points

That sounds like he was "DONE" less than a year ago?

when you don't play, you don't produce.

It seems like Hollinger hates anything to do with the PnG

Word. He is so far from done. I agree. Just because he lost out of the rotation in favor of some younger players does NOT mean he is finished!

I'm trying to figure out why he's never stuck with one team. He can dribble, pass, and shoot well enough that he shouldn't be pased around the league. Is his attitude an issue?

lets hope he gets that type of point production for us the last 20 games of the season!

PS: Why has no other news source reported this yet? Seems very strange to me. Hopefully this is not false info!

From Lakers.com:

Quote:
“We’re sorry to have to let Slava go even though it was unlikely that he would’ve been able to play the rest of the season because of his injury,” said Kupchak. “He’s been a positive addition to us for six years, including helping us win two championships. We thank him for his contributions and wish him well.”

I can't believe it's been 6 seasons with Slava already. I'm going to miss him

Good job Dagger. I was a bit concerned that only the LA Times was reporting it.

By the way, I'm in San Diego today. Does anyone know if FSN is available down here for tonight's game?

No. JJ actually has a decent attitude. He's just not the "prototypical" anything and Coach's & GM's in this league are always looking for something closer to what is SUPPOSED to be the perfect fit instead of being satisfied with the good fit they already have. JJ has been an effective player everywhere he's landed. It's unfortunate, but for many players once you've become labeled as a tradable asset for one team, most other teams will eventually see you as that as well and there starts your journey around the league.

The lack of stories on other main sites is puzzling.

They are usually stepping over each other trying to be the first to post. They seem to have been pretty quick with every other transaction (besides 10day contracts)

If it was news when he was released, why wouldn't it be news if he is signed.

And its not like its a heavy news day.

NBA.com has it up, and they are rarely the first to break a news story. It makes sense the Times did.

I'm thinking its more media bias. To put my own good spin on it, maybe they believe it will help..and are a little bummed that it happened.

If we can make the playoffs JJ will turn out to be a big pick up IMO. Hes got about twenty games to get somewhat comfortable with the tri in practice and maybe a few minutes in games. Hes is not going to take D Georges minutes, but if he can somehow take Sashas minutes then that would be great. I know Phil usually doesnt like playing new guys but Phil has never had such little talent as well. Overall it can only be looked at as a positive b/c Slava was doing nothing.
