Dear Slava
I want you to know you will always have a
Special place in my heart
Despite all the games you did not start
Or finish
(You should have ate your spinach)
But I will always remember how you loved to chuck
And how your defense wasn't worth a flying %$@!
One day I hope the Lakers will have a Euro like Kirilenko
But until then, so long Medvedenko!

Slava is a good man. He will always be remembered for all those quick fouls he commited. I have never ever seen somebody...(in tear)....foul another player so easily and gracefully.

Here's another ode to Slava based on a song (not sure how many of you know it).

Those Were The Days, My Friend

Once upon a time, there was a Dynasty
Where we used to raise a banner or two
Remember how we laughed away the hours,
Think of all the great things Slava would do

Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we'd choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were young and sure to have our way

Di di di di di di
Di di di di di di
Di di di di di di di di di di

Then, the busy years went rushing by us
We lost our starry notions on the way
If, by chance, I'd see Slava in the game,
We'd smile at one another and we'd say

Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we'd choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days

Di di di di di di
Di di di di di di
Di di di di di di di di di di...

Just tonight, I stood in Staples Center
Nothing seemed the way it used to go
On the offensive glass, I saw a stranger
Was that lonely player really Slava Medvendenko?

Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we'd choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days

Di di di di di di
Di di di di di di
Di di di di di di di di di di
Di di di di di di
Di di di di di di
Di di di di di di di di di di

On the floor, he missed a high-arching jumper
Then I saw his face when he was whistled for a foul
Oh, my friend, we're older but no wiser
Back to the bench to grab your towel

Those were the days, my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd sing and dance forever and a day
We'd live the life we'd choose
We'd fight and never lose
Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days

Di di di di di di
Di di di di di di
Di di di di di di di di di di
Di di di di di di
Di di di di di di
Di di di di di di di di di di

Agree about Slava, but the video is NOT my creation. You have to thank LakeShow09 for that masterpiece!

Man, you guys ridicule Slava (and so do I), but Slava is living proof that just about *anyone* can make it in the NBA. Hell, he came to the US, made several million dollars, and can now retire to a nice home in Ukraine eating his borscht all day. Man, I wish I were tall.

Hilarious. My last memory of Slava is him fainting in an elevator after he stuffed himself full of a Snickers candy bar during breakfast. "Snickers- It's so satisfying."

There once was a rook from the Ukraine,
Who played so little it was strange,
Yet someone signed him for more years,
Allowing him to call it a career,
And that's why Mitch needs a brain.

^^^
8-verse Slava haiku:

The one-word essence
Of Slava Medvedenko
Overall? SNICKERS.

SNICKERS ev'ry time --
With ev'ry single last touch
His only thought -- SHOOT!

Six-ten, two-forty
Yet only hit the boards so
He could shoot again.

At the other end
Always a stupid foul just
A moment away.

5 years in the pros
Never met a shot or foul
That he didn't try.

Months on the IR --
Faints after a CANDY BAR?
Nothing else of note.

Will we miss hearing,
"SLA-va MED-veDENko." Ouch.
That's cold, Stephen A.

His last year? NO TRADE.
SNICKERS never satisfied.
As always: SNICKERS.

MIM

A vital piece to our championship team
Slava Medvedenko lived a Ukranian's dream
He came to tha states and made millions of dollars
Without putting much sweat on his brand new collar
He made some shots
But played no D
Everyone wanted to trade him, not just me
He's finally gone, and I'm just grinnin
And about that championship piece thing, I wuz just kidin...

bye slava!

Mixed reactions.

Slava was the type of guy you wanted to cheer for but at the same time it is hard to not watch that video and just shake your head. He clearly had talent but never done much with it.

I will miss Stanislav. Always funny to watch Kobe chew him out after a defensive lapse.

the ball is a circle! or something like that.
To be honest I'll miss Slava. He's kinda like the friend you have who sorta comes with the group but you don't really have much in common. Still you build up a level of comfort having him/her around so when they go away, it feels like something is missing even though you know its nothing special.

Adios Slava. Hope you get picked up by another team.

Damn, that video montage almost makes me want to bring Slava back!

In all seriousness, I used to be a big Slava fan. I thought he had all kinds of potential. The only summer league game I ever went to was to see Slava play. But he just never got it. Sad really. I bet he goes to the Euro leagues and puts up some good nembers.
