If Devean George walks at the end of this year, would you even consider Battier? I think he would be a good pickup based on his background...winningest player in college, solid foundation in fundamentals from Duke, member of Duke championship team, was a star in the classroom, etc. Overall, he's of solid character and a good defender. In terms of money, I'm not sure how this would impact the team. Any thoughts?

I would prefer Gasol over Battier any day of the week. And I would prefer to sign DG to a 2-year, 10-12 million contract than to sign Battier. Though at 5-6 million for the next 5 years his contract isn't that bad, DG knows the system.

Battier is signed through 2011 ao I doubt he'll be wearing a Lakers Jersey next year.

Battier is Mr. Memphis...they're not letting him go anywhere, and he's overrated anyway.

Battier is a good player. It's something that hasn't gone past Memphis. In other words, Battier will cost something.

Is he a free agent this summer? I'd like to have him on the Lakers but realisticlaly if he is a free agent this summer he's going to be looking to get paid and not neccesarily max contract money and max years contract because no team will offer it to him.But I see the Lakers making a run at him in the off season if he is a free agent but end up like what happened to us last summer when we went after Antonio Daniels.

Battier signed long-term, but I would have loved to get him here.

Good athleticism and stamina, CONFIDENT and smart on both ends of the floor.

May not even have Devean's quickness or strength, but Shane is already a better player than Devean EVER was.

If we didn't have to give up Kobe, Odom, Bynum, or Mihm, I'd grab him in a second.

Actually, for the same money, I'd rather have Devean than Shane.

DG has the advantage of knowing the system well. A lineup with DG seems to help in running the offense. When DG is healthy, he can be a very good defender.

Finally a good topic about getting a solid player. Now i would love too have shane on this team, he id definitely a championship type player, solid all the way around. Reminds me off rick fox on the offensive end, can shoot the 3, take it to the hole, pull down 5 boards for you. I havnt seen him enough too know about his D, but can anyone give a reoprt on that, god knows how we would get him, but he would be a solid pickup.

He may not be an elite defender but at least he is a defensive minded player. Seems to take pride in his D, which would be a nice addition to this team. I think he would be a great compliment to Kobe.
