As far as i know, if he passes his physical and signs he's on the roster today.

I believe active rosters need to be handed in immediately prior to game time. So if he's on the roster by then he should be able to play.

I checked up on this a little more...

The composition of the Inactive List can change on a game-by-game basis -- no less than 60 minutes prior to tipoff, the team must present to the official scorer a list of the players who will be active for that game.

So the Lakers have until 6:30 Pacific time to get Jim Jackson officially on their roster (physical and paperwork -- preumably then cleared through the league offices) and placed on tonight's list.

By the way, I looked up the answers on a FAQ that might be useful for anyone with questions about the salary cap, CBA, rosters etc.
