The key word for the Lakers is effort. I mean we crushed Detroit. Who i must add crushed San Antonio twice this season. So as long as we give full effort we should be alright for the remainder. I mean we play San Antonio two more time but after that we should be able to take care of the rest of the losers in the NBA.

Higher hoop IQ. Draft quality athletic defensive capable players to cut the number of double teaming and have quicker reactions times to rotate and longer wingspans to contest.

lamar's D has always been suspect...but there is a bright note: he's being aggressive on the offensive end...at least more than before...one thing at a time I guess...

I don't think so. They simply needed to stay home on their shooters. They weren't even moving.

That's a bit of an exaggeration, but I agree with ya in principal anyhow.

We have players who are going to see minutes in any given game who
are going to get burned on those kinds of shots. Not to say that can't
get better, but they sure as heck aren't there now.

Luke, Smush and Sasha - those are my culprits to that end.

Sasha, admittedly, defends slightly better than Smush - but against teams
like the Spurs with an inside draw like Duncan, along with quality
perimeter guys like Parker, Ginobili and (tonight at least) Fins, they just
can't keep it under control.

Luke's not as much of a problem because he doesn't see as many minutes.

Smush and Sasha basically account for an entire position through the
whole game though, and we will continue to get lit up by opposing PGs
until we find a PG who is at least half-way shut-down on defense.

It was catch and shoot while the Lakers (Laker SF) watched...I don't know, but driving and kicking isn't something new...I'm sure PJ saw something like that back in the 70's.

If you wanna get blocks on the perimeter, you do need guys with a lot of length rather than hops (since the release is so fast), ala Scottie Pippen, who got a lot of blocks at the 3-point line guarding guys HIS height by just sticking his arm out. Now that guy was a physical freak.

TBDI, don't let Pip fool you it was Jax who told them to double down on Dunc. Dunc was either defended well in this contest, or didn't feel well because his prescence was barely felt.

Dunc was just a little more than a decoy in the this contest while TP ripped holes into our defense and, crashed the middle for either his own shot, or a quick release to the guys standing on the perimeter. Either way the Lakers were going to get clobbered. The shifts were late, and the Lakers were rendered into complete confusion by the 4th as Parker continued his masterpiece orchestrating the offense, and clowning the Lakers defense. This is why it was such a joy to watch Odom lay-his-ass-out!

You defend a player like that before he gets hot. This Laker team is falling in love with no mans land area. In between or a soft zone. It kills this team. FUBAR.

If Phil would have called a TO when the Spurs ran off 4 threes in a row he might have been able correct the mistake but he expects his players to correct mistakes on the fly. LO was guarding their SG's, why? That should have been Kobe. LO should have guarded Bowen.

And by the way Lamar wasn't the only one that didn't back on D. There was Smush got torched, aswell as Sasha, Kobe, and even Kwame. But foxsports only decides to show Lamar getting burned.

Can anybody confirm this because I can't imagine LO on his own initiative doubling down on Duncan... The help defense was right no question... Parker's uncontested layups had to be stopped. Smush could do nothing about it. Kwame stayed home on Dunc. Odom was the closest free big... This makes no sense...

Yep...

Stay home on the shooters? That's why they GOT the shooters to surround Duncan...

What we didn't do is rotate to the open man...

Either we were doubling with help rotation or we were staying in MAN.

Complete lack of communication when half of the team does one thing and the other half does the other...
