PostPosted: Tue Mar 07, 2006 11:03 am    Post subject: A Real Lakers Fan v. An LG Lakers Fan

Before I start, I just want to say that I love LG.net. But I find it increasingly difficult and frustrating to come on here now - especially after losses. So I just wanted to write this and maybe a couple of people will agree with what I am saying and back me up.

I don't understand how some of you are Laker fans. You seem to hate the team and the players more than you actually like them. So I wanted to make a quick suggestion. Instead of name calling, why don't you actually use some constructive criticism. For example:

An LG Laker fan would say, "F--- PUUUUUKE, he sucks. Phil is an idiot for playing him."

A real Laker fan would say, "Phil should have put Devean George on Rip Hamilton. Luke doesn't have the foot speed to match up."

Another example:

An LG Laker fan would say, "Sasha sucks. He should be in the D-League."

A real Laker fan would say, "With Jimmy Jackson here, I wonder if Sasha might actually get some confidence if he got 30 minutes of playing time a night in the D-League. He might actually be able to give the Lakers a huge boost down the stretch."

I mean, there is one thing to be critical, which fans should be. It's another thing to hate the team and the players all together, which is what I think many on here do.

Think of the Lakers as your child. Would you tell your child, "You suck. I can't believe I ever had you."

Anyway, that's all. Peace. And go Lakers!

Hey there, I definitely understand where you're coming from. It's pretty frustrating to look at all te outright pessimism and hate that get spewed about on here, but unfortunately it's just a sign of the times. That's just the way a lot of the newest generation is. Pessimism, hate, and destruction are considered good traits and earning street cred is of paramount significance. 20 years ago, when your favourite team won a championship you went out and partied and a sign of a great time was how big the smile was on your face. Today the new generation goes out specifically just to get drunk and see how much mayhem they can be a part of. Each time a team wins a championship now, it's a logistical nightmare for the cities involved to deal with. All the police and firemen have to work overtime in anticipation of the mass destruction and violence that's going to occur and then the cleanup the next day only adds to the problems. Actually costs cities quite a bit for their teams to win championships nowadays.

So, yeah - the haters are frustrating, but they are just reflective of where we're at as a culture so don't expect much to change. They live to figure out new ways to put a frown on anyones face. Seems it's probably one of the few things that makes them smile. Sad....

LOL..well Sasha does suck. It really doesnt matter how you put it.

I believe he's our shooting specialist who cant shoot. And that would make Cook our "D" specialist.

There is only one player that is safe on here and that's Kobe.

Everyone else (including management) is bashed non-stop.

And if you try to be reasonable you are called a (bleep) homer.

Amazing.

As a parent, no. But if he had Kwame's hands, I'd take him in for a paternity test.

Look, i see lg as a place to vent when things are going good/bad. There is no need to be all pc here. Sure we should respect the players but at the same time there is no need to sugar coat things.

What we type here when a player does something dumb is what were thinking in our minds anyways.

Just because I'm a laker fan doesn't mean that Luke Walton hasn't been horrible most of the season. Just because I'm a Laker fan doesn't mean that Kwame doesn't have the worst hands I've ever seen basketball wise.

Fact is at times the Lakers are HORRIBLE. And as fans that invest a lot of time and heart into this team, we get upset. But at the same time, it doesn't mean that we love them any less.

Agreed. It's just easier sometimes for some people to rant rather than to give constructive criticism. This is not to say that this team hasn't been frustrating, but some people really need to chill out. Even if the Lakers were to somehow miss the playoffs, it's still not the end of the world. A person who bashes the team nonstop is not a better fan. Sometimes we have to take logic over raw emotion and think things through.

In boot camp my Drill Instructor would whisper to my bunkmate that he was a waste of sperm and that he called his family to tell him how worthless he was. My bunkmate ended up becoming a good Marine. Ahhh the good ol' days, now I have to deal with all this PC crap and sensitive people.

Funny, I find it easier on here than a real Laker fan.

A real Laker fan may say "_________ blows chunks," but has no clue why or can't explain him or herself well.

So what you're saying is that when you showed your dad your report card in the second grade and he went off on you and said: WTF, you little piece of shiese, how the hell did you get two B's and a C. You're a worthless piece of garbage. I can't believe you're even still living in this house. I have craps that are of more consequence than you. You'll never amount to anything. I was foolish to ever even thought to believe in you. You're worse than roadkill. What a freakin waste of space you are.

You just turned around and said, Hey dad...Thanx for caring! I know you wouldn't say those things unless you cared and I feel so much more loved and wanted right now...

Players I would rarely if ever critisize
Kobe-right or wrong he bleeds for the colors
Mihm-Works his arse off whether happening or not
Turiaf-Did whatever it took to wear colors/effort
Bynum-hes ours until proven otherwise
DG-Has been through the wars for and with us
Cook-effort whether working or not
Sasha- he tries. Cant fault him. Certain things are uncoachable

I am so sick of "real fans" vs "Fake fans". we are all fans, some moreso than others. If constantly cracking, critisizing a player means 'fake fan" then YOU arent a fan period.

Players that dont give 100% everygame, is disrespectful to the Colors which is disrespectful to me

Mike D'Antonio said it best
"Im not asking you to play well. Im not asking you to make shots. I am asking you to play hard".

Damn straight, good post. I'm tired of people saying "Buss said we would make the playoffs", "Phils is an idiot", and blah blah. We are very young team, but we have the best coach and player so don't think this organization isn't trying to move in the right direction. They have to be correct with there moves and as fans we need to embrace the growth and enjoy the ride.

Go Lakers

Great post Bounty, and I love the list of players you quoted above. You can really tell who gives the effort night-in and night-out on this team.

Actually I used to assume the same thing, but someone did an age roll call last september or so and it was surprising to see just how many of the negative posters were actually mid 20'2 to early 30's. I thought they were all just kids but was even more horrified when I found out so many of them weren't. Even scarier!!

Man I am new here and when I said something not possitive about Lamar's inconsistency I was called a hater, then i said something about how some of the posters here refer to Kwame as "the possible next big ben" or "duncan stopper" and some guy told me that they were waiting 4 me in the Spurs forum.

Real fans speak the truth, it's tough love. No matter what, win or lose, we're on here talking about the our team. I know that people bash on players, management, etc. But it's only because a lot of people here expect a lot because of the Lakers history. It's tough going from 3 titles in a row, to not making the playoffs. I myself try to hold back from bashing our players, but there are times were you need to vent, and this is the place to do that it seems. But not matter what, I live and breath the Lakers and will be a true fan FOREVER...

I hate when people bring up the "real" fans vs "this-that" fan.
Granted the name calling is juvenile but you have to realize that
a)people from a wide range of age groups are posting on here
b)a lot of folks are ticked off and use this place as an outlet to vent their frustrations. Especially after a loss. Frustration will make the best of us lok like idiots.

Those of you who have enough self control to not let your emotions manifest into an online rant, bravo to you. Realize that not everyone is perfect and if you don't like a response or a post, DON'T READ IT.

Yes, that type of lingo is even worse at CL, a site I no longer visit anymore. It does grate, but I tend to ignore anyone who relies on such content as they usually have nothing worth listening to. As a rule, the most mature posters on this site never rely on such garbage-it's almost as if certain posters use this site as their soapbox for pent-up frustrations.
