IMHO we are only one or two players away from having a really competitive roster. Just curious about who everyone thinks we could add in the offseason to complete the puzzle. I think our first option should be a scorer to compliment our core of Kobe, Lamar, and Mihm.

Your thoughts????

Neither Bosh nor Lewis is a FA next year. And the second option will come in the trade of Lamar Odom. This is not a bash post but all of the tea leaves read that he will be gone.

I think free agent pickups are out of the question. Therefore we're talking trades which adds a second aspect to this thread. Who do you think our best trade bait is?

My thoughts - I'm kind of lean towards the idea that it might be a mistake to let Bynum go. Therefore we have Kwame, scrubs and draft picks.

(Granted, that doesn't leave us a whole lot to work with. Maybe I'm missing something.)

I would love to see a deal done for RJ of the Nets. I doubt it happens, Nets are looking to get in the KG sweepstakes. Minny will definitely ask for RJ in return (plus others). But RJ, IMO, is a great fit for this team. He plays on both ends of court. He's very coachable. But then again, like I stated, I doubt the Lakers could pull it off...

Don't be surprised to see LO moved either, if we're talking who our "best"
trade bait is.

Clearly it's LO. Next to that Bynum.

Neither of those guys is worth giving up unless it's for the right piece
in return.

LO could certainly be part of the big picture as that 3rd option, especially
because most of his contributions come in boards and assists. Good fit
for that role.

Bynum is the future, but won't hit serious stride for at least 3 years or so,
more likely 5 or more.

That timeline just doesn't fit with Kobe's prime being in the now, and
Phil's contract being just two more years.

If we have a chance to add an all-star quality player, especially at PF,
then you have to consider using either or both of those guys to get the
deal done (obviously depending on who the target is).

I agree...

Bynum is a tough situation,... you see the potential is there, but at the same time he's not as polished or has shown the skill level of a D. Howard,... yet (and that's a big yet). But does that mean you turn down trades that will make this team a whole lot better in the near term, while KB is in his prime (prime being now until he's 32 or 33). Will Bynum be able to make huge contribution while KB8 is in his prime? I would like to say yes, but in reality nobody knows...

As I stated before, I like RJ (I think he fits nicely), but don't see how the Lakers can land him. I like all of the Bulls current guards (Ben, Kirk, and Chris, in that order), but I'm not sure what we can offer them. LO (with all his issues depending where you sit with LO) is too much for just one of those guys, IMO.

But you are right, any significant trade the Lakers do will involve LO and/or Bynum.

I'd say the Lakers would have to move Odom to get a good second scoring option. Maybe they'd move him to Chicago or New Jersey. If they can swing a trade for Rashard Lewis, that'd be even better. But ideally, they would be able to get a second scorer and keep Lamar. Allow him to do all the other things that he is so good at.

Soda - I agree that LO and Bynum are our best trade bait but it would have to be some sort of immediate impact player that would make us title contenders (KG). I'm a big believer in chemistry on a team (i.e. Pistons) is more important that superstars. That's why I think if we hold onto LO and add a scorer that's fits into Phil's system then we would be there.

Fred Jones or Tony Allen - 5yr/20 mil
OR
Pargo for about 4 yr/12-15 mil

Try to get Boozer from Utah with Mihm/Sasha as bait. A resigned DG to make salaries work.

Trade Cook for Mikki Moore/2006 2nd rnd pick...

Pickup FA DeMarr Johnson for 5 yrs/8-10 mil

Kwame/Bynum
Boozer/Moore/Turiaf
LO/DeMarr
Kobe/JJ
*PG*/Smush

That's the team I'd build. And it's not too farfetched...
