when ever he takes a shot inside the arc he rarely misses, the only problem is his three. you guys make it seem as though the guy cant shoot from anywhere, when its only the three thats giving him trouble. Also did u know sash has only missed like 4 FT his whole career _________________ Tracy McGrady, the player closest to matching Kobe in pure individual ability, was 'no picnic to deal with either. His overall numbers aren't that good. Pehaps next season he will develop more confidence. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that." ~~Martin Luther King Jr.~~ |

It's quite obvious that the kid CANNOT play at this level. This isn't his first pro team and he's still garbage.
Time to give JJ those minutes with Kobe or Smush at the point... _________________ "My thirst for domination is fed only by the game. I refuse to get distracted by outside forces." - Kobe Bryant |

That IS the problem! He's the only Laker whose taken more shots from behind the three-point line than in front of it, despite the fact he's terrible from that range.
I don't think anyone would deny he would make more shots if he moved in closer, but he doesn't.
That's why he deserves to be criticized.

Did you notice he's only taken 38 FTs the entire season? In the 5 of the last 6 games he didn't get to the line once. The other game, I think he got fouled shooting a three. |

Yeah, I agree, his FG% would go up a great deal if he caught the pass beyond the 3, pulled a little Kobe-esque pump fake got 2 steps in and took the jumper. Better than living (or rather dying) at the 3 pt line all game. |

Anyone here ever see Sasha make a layup with out the luck factor involved?
I could swear he drives in the lane with his freaking eyes closed, seriously. _________________ What? Never mind... |

Do layup drills count?
If not, then no. Offhand, I can't recall one. |

What I don't get is why everyone talks up his shot mechanics, like it's the perfect form.
Who the hell cares what the mechanics are. Look at Marion, ugliest shot ever, but it sure goes in the hoop alot. _________________ What? Never mind... |

his mechanics arent even all that he lunges his body toward the hoop when he shoots instead of striaght up and down elevation its more horizontal.. hes too weak to shoot from that distance _________________ Why claim to be a fan if you're not going to support your team? |

Sasha is 38-103 inside the 3-point line... not very good either. His strength isn't his shooting, rather his floor game. He has a 3-1 assist-turnover ratio. And whether people want to admit it or not, he plays well defensively. He gets beat off the dribble by smaller guys because he should... He's 6'7".
Sasha has a good shot, but he seems to be better off the dribble. But instead he plays as a spot-up shooter. I'd like to see him get the ball, take a dribble and then shoot. He's pretty much money when he does that.
He lacks confidence when he takes the ball to the basket. Stu always says that Sasha seems to think he is a small guard. If he took the basket and tried to finish, he'd be ok. One thing is for sure, he's been working on it. I've seen him try more layups lately. |

Is there a worst player defending the pick and roll on this team? |

Yeah, I am serious... Smush is a worse defender. When I say "well," I'm saying he is about a "C+" defender... not great, but good. |

That stat has about as much impact on the game as his 90% FT avg has when he shoots less than one FT per game.
If you look at the the league leaders in assist-to-turnover ratio, you'll see Royal Ivey is ahead of Sasha yet has only dished out 52 assists all season. Greg Buckner is right below Sasha, but I doubt anyone would say he's got a strong floor game and he's not even a PG. Some of the other names in the top 25: Damon Jones and Kevin Ollie.
There's a reason he doesn't turn the ball over that much. He rarely does anything with it. He doesn't penetrate and dish or push the ball on the break. He doesn't even make that many entry passes into the post.
He either dribbles the ball up court, passes it off, and then runs to his spot behind the arc or eats up shot clock with a lot of pointless dribbling. It's not that difficult to keep your TOs down if you're rarely putting yourself in an attacking position.

That I agree with. It's unreasonable to expect him to be able to stay in front of the likes of Tony Parker because of his height and lack of quickness. Due to lack of guard depth, we have no choice though.
But if he can't defend the point, then who does he guard then? The SGs on most teams are usually among their best scorers. They may not be as quick, but they're almost all bigger and stronger then he is. |

True enough, but something tells me KobeFTW wasn't the first to notice
that about Sasha's spots on the floor - so it's pretty likely that most guys
facing him know not to give him that extra step.
I think part of it is also Sasha having only gotten minutes last year and
this one, and both years nowhere near starting-minutes.
There are alot of guys out there like Sasha, who are "one of the best
shooters in the building" in practices - but then when gametime comes
it disappears (Von would be an excellent example incidentally).
Tough part is, the best way to remedy that is to give the guy minutes.
Tougher part is, half those guys end up "good only in practice" long after
they're considered "young" and still having "potential."
Which will Sasha be? Recent signs ain't great - but this year is kind of
about feeling out who to keep and who to lose anyways - so I don't mind
giving him some minutes. He's (sadly) our best defender at PG anyways. |

Perhaps.
Until then, the only person he's proving wrong is Mitch Kupchak for drafting this project player ahead of a more NBA-ready point guard like Chris Duhon. |
