Lamar was the man....respect to him and i believe in him!!!

Kobe was basically Kobe.....nearly everyone on this board calling him out and saying he had lost the game for us, he shoots too much etc

those who have faith in him knew better and he did waht he usually does and came back and showed the doubters just how good he is and proved them wrong again.......some people never learn and don't show enough respect

Good to see some are finally seeing what Lamar Odom is all about.

He is the guy that will bust his ass for the things noone else wants to do. The "dirty work" so to speak. And if we actually had a (bleep) point guard that knew how to pass he would be even more effective as a scorer.

Though this summer, I want Phil forcing Odom to watch tapes of Shaq and how he used to post up in the Triangle. Ofcourse Odom will never that sort of player, but the way he used to establish a base and how he knew where to attack the defense from without picking up fouls.

Well, I got news for ya... NOt a team in the league would pick up Odom to make him a sixth man, and no matter who the Lakers pick up they won't put LO on the bench!

There always has to be one!

What a lot of people call inconsistent at this point makes no sense. It has been a long time since LO hasn't contributed. If you're talking about point totals, and point totals only like I know you are take a look around the league box scores a little more often. The only players outside of the league leading scorers that consistently put up in the 15 -20 point range have similiar nights. LO has been in double digits every game for awhile now so the constant dig of "inconsistent" is becoming pretty much nothing more than an overused cliche around here.

Ron Artest went 1-8 tonight in a win against Milwaukee. So I suppose that makes him an inconsistent player?

LO is a talent. All he needs is time just like KObe is saying, and what we are currently seeing may be nothing in comparison to what is comming up in the near future...

Dude, as a 3rd option you can deal with some inconsistancy when the
guys averages are what Lamar's are.

It know they don't LOOK that great, but how many guys give you 14/9/5
in this game?

I'll reiterate it, he's NOT the answer as a #2.

But guys like LO who do all the other things are PERFECT 3rd options,
where they can score their 15 or so points without further expectation
and focus on crashing the boards, dishing, defense, etc.

Who in the WORLD do you think we're getting with the "2007 plan" that
is gonna fill our PG and PF spots, and THEN give us a SF to start OVER
Lamar Odom?

You're gonna add 3 STAR PLAYERS to the squad?

How many teams in the league have a player of LO's talent-level (and
salary!) as their 6th-man.

C'mon bro, you know that's just silly to even say

well you gotta a point to Keep Lamar as a 3rd option as a small forward...

lamar is a 14/9/5 average which is descent then by this argument as Lamar a third option we need a PG and a consistent Power Forward, and 6th man!!! I dont deavon cutting it even for a sixth man

For what it's worth, I happen to think we could keep LO on as a SF or PF.

He had similar numbers last year (aside from assists better in fact) playing
power-forward, and while he's not a great defender there, he's solid
enough and you can always bring Kwame in for D when you need it and
slide LO to SF.

That said, ideally, I want our "2nd option" to be a post-player.

Mihm is currently our ONLY legit low-post option on offense.

He's underrated by most in the league, and even by some on this board,
but he's not a star.

More importantly, while he's consistant this year while ON the floor, his
foul trouble breeds inconsistant totals.

Getting a "2nd-option" at PG isn't the answer IMO. Balancing out the
crowds Kobe draws against a low-post star-quality big is the answer.

So to me, pick up a star PF.

Let Bynum grow into out-playing Mihm. Keep Mihm the starter until that
day.

Find a quality tall-PG type, solid defender - the exact kind of player that
fits Phil's system and that he's comfortable with - but that can be had for
an MLE-type contract.

MLE-PG/Smush
Kobe/???
Lamar/DG if we can resign him
Star PF (2nd-option quality offense)/Kwame
Mihm/Bynum/Kwame

I know, I know.

Such a rough skeleton. But with DG's contract up, and my being strongly
in favor of feeling out the market for a star PF - which without trading
LO or Bynum will mean waiting until 2007/2008 (depending on Kwame's
actual contract guarantee) - it's kinda far away.

And don't get me wrong, if we can make a move for a star 2nd-option,
heck yeah - do it now.

But don't force moves.

Too often we criticize when no huge moves are made for our team, while
alot of teams are making terrible moves all around us.

We're just one of 30 teams. It's not NBA 2k6 here.

The offer has to work for us, but it also has to appeal to the team we're
trading with.

I'd much rather not make a bad move, or not make a move than only
benefits us in the short-term - than make one for the sake of being a
4th seed for the next 4-5 years.

Props to LO! Monster game, brotha!

You know, we've been criticizing Lamar for not demanding the ball more in the offense, but think about it. If you aren't comfortable in the offense are you going to call for the ball without knowing what to do with it? Lamar has been kind of coasting, focusing on what he is comfortable doing (rebounding, dishing, handling the ball) while he figures out what his role in the offense is. I think he's been deferring to people who know the offense well (Dev, Cook and of course Kobe, sometimes even Luke) or to people whose role is less complicated in the system: like mihm who is only expected to play low post or flash to the pinch post and knock down shots.

Kobe has said it himself. Lamar's position in the offense is the most difficult to learn, he struggled with it himself. Can't we just give him some time? Rome wasn't built in a day. I think he is getting more and more comfortable in the offense and that is why his scoring is going up. I just wish they would do a better job of taking advantage of the mismatches in the post. Watching the New Orleans feed on NBATV, those guys were just marveling at Lamar's abilities, and said he's UNSTOPPABLE when he has a foot in the paint because he is so tall. We need to isolate him in the post and make other teams either double team him, or let him go one on one against him.

Oh, and regarding what Kobe said about the fans supporting Lamar, any true Laker fan is going to support any player that is wearing the purple and gold. Honestly, Slava and Luke get more love around here for doing infinitely less for this team than Lamar does. All the negativity needs to stop.

GO LAKERS!

It's basically this.

LO's points are inconsistant.

His rebounds fluctuate - but that's normal. Even the great rebounders
would tell you that some nights the ball just doesn't bounce your way.

His assists are actually pretty consistant, especially considering his position.

Again, those are the reasons he makes a great 3rd guy.

Those boards and assists will pretty much be there night in and night out.

If his points are a bit up and down it's ok, especially when (as the 3rd guy)
he's playing that "garbage man" role and alot of those points (as they
already do) come off of crashing the offensive glass, broken plays, etc.

I don't blame a soul for calling him inconsistant on scoring.

That's just flat true.

The guy's not a true scorer.

But it's not ENTIRELY his fault that we don't have a 2nd-option on offense
to let him play his natural role.

I will give it that GameCock has said that Odom has a lot of potential - but YOU?

Please. All you done is made threads asking people what does Odom do that's good and rating each skill out of 10.

You are the biggest Odom hater ever. You better believe Kobe doesn't think at all like you.

Bryant knows how Odom was the only guy that busted his ass to get 17 boards on a team that doesn't show much passion at all. And 9 out of 10 guys in the league (especially the one's with talent) will not support a guy shooting that much.

Someone sees it your way? Certainly not Kobe Bean Bryant.

So when GP was causing turmoil in the colors we should support him? When Rodman was a bad influence on the others we should support him? this argument is tired. LO had a very nice game. i wish he wouldnt have fit in that spurs performance last game. ha im still waiting for my nba 2k6 x360, its in the mail. Watch me gut the whole tea muaahhhh. na j/k wont do any trades, i know im sick like that, i like reality. But good point be patient, no one wins right after a dynasty needs.

I think we forget how hard it is too make a dynasty. Look at the yankees after thier dynasty ended, 6 years, and they have bleep. Its a different siutation in baseball with no cap, they went back too a W.S and lost , but winning in the regular season and becoming a dynasty are two different things, it takes time too get the right mold and personal in their. Took us 13 years before we won again...and i doubt it will take longer than another 2 years too be at the top again ,

Great post, wolf. You know I agree with Lamar watching film, but I want him to watch film of himself. I don't know how many times he went into the lane tonight, they cut him off in the middle, and he either forced it, or passed it, when the baseline was completely open. A spin and a drop step and he could have had a layup or dunk. He seriously needs to develop his right hand. He is helping the defense too much by being so one dimensional. Can you imagine how dangerous he would be if he could use either hand equally well? That, and getting comfortable in the triangle, will take him to the next level, imo.

yea you didnt rate if Im correct, or that was your boy that didnt. Look Lo was very nice 2night. But please lets listen to kobes words. Those were his words not mine.

Those were words you say about a rook, 2-3 year guy. Not a 7year vet on his 3rd team. What about smushs 5steals and 16 pts. im sure kobe was aware of those. Yes kobe does think like i do. If LO brought it every night, utilized his 6'10 frame he would be excellent. WE ALL SAY THAT. Go look at my preseason posts. Please.

Kobes words if molded into one would be "IF". IF LO did this, IF lo did that.

But LO played hard in the Spurs game. It does not always result in a good game but he played hard. The Spurs are just the champs and jumped on us.

Just admit you are a LO hater. You don't have to deny it; there are probably more LO haters, than supporters here anyway.

"I dont ask you to play well, i dont ask you to make shots, i ask you to play hard".(mike d'antoni) Players that play hard get support. LO played hard. Props to him

But LO played hard in the Spurs game. It does not always result in a good game but he played hard. The Spurs are just the champs and jumped on us.

Just admit you are a LO hater. You don't have to deny it; there are probably more LO haters, than supporters here anyway.

Did he? PJ seemed to think that LO got killed on those 3 by Gino. Look LO had a very good game. i said it early in the 3rd that he was the MVP. i recognize it. But Kobe basically said "IF" lo does this................=he doesnt/hasnt

If lamar workd on his shot we wouldnt need another star cuz he would fit that role if he averaged 20 points...

Basically he has lost confidence he had in Miami as a post scorer. The move you speak of I have seen him do In Miami.

He just needs to be told by Phillip "You are our main post player and we want you scoring atleast 10 points in the paint every game"

His brain needs to be enriched with that mentality. I am a ballhandler and once the Triangle is initiated my main job is to go into the post and grab offensive boards or post up

Do that, and he will even possibly become a 17-18 ppg guy for the Lakers.

GO LAKERS!

You support your team, no matter who is on it, as long as they are wearing the colors...and maybe if PJ tried saying that before a game, the guys might relax and go out and win some games...

What does getting killed have to do with playing hard. People play hard against Kobe every night and get embarrassed. He played a hard game and he fell short as did the Lakers. Guys like you find a way to turn it into "LO is a lazy burnout who doesn't play hard because he is high and hates winning".

Iv'e seen it over and over from people on LG. Playing hard and playing well doesn't always correlate. Sasha plays as hard as Kobe every night. Most times he comes up short unlike Kobe. Just give LO more time, and forget he is a 7 year vet. He is a rookie to Phil.

KG is not a post player. He's a 7ft small forward. He's been criticized his whole career for not developing his low post game and actually playing the post.

No it does not. Maybe to you but not to most people. It means he didn't rotate in time, and has nothing to do with effort. Maybe he physically couldn't make the rotation in time? But LO haters will jump to dumb conclusions like the one in bold.
