Lakers and their WC rivals schedule comparison (Updated for 4/12 games)

Updated for 4/9 games. Dropped the Clippers and Grizzlies as the Lakers aren't going to catch them. I may change the format to list individual games.

Down to 3 for Utah/NO. They both play tonight with New Orleans having the more difficult of the two games at home against Cleveland while Utah hosts Houston.

Utah squeaked one out and the Hornets fell to Houston. The date to clinch has been pushed back to the 14th. The Lakers winning their next two would force Utah to have to win their last three (which includes a back-to-back against San Antonio and Dallas) and pray for two Laker losses.

Convincing win over Golden State tonight means New Orleans could be done by tomorrow and Utah could be all but done after their game against Denver. Plus, the Queens lost so that means the Lakers are back in the 7 spot for now.

Utah and New Orleans both won beating Denver and Seattle, respectively. Unfortunately for them, that won't be the case on Friday when they play each other. After Friday night, the Lakers will either:
- be playoff bound (Lakers win, Hornets win)
- have a magic number of 1 with the Jazz (Lakers win, Jazz win)
- have a magic number of 1 with the Jazz and Hornets (Blazers win, Hornets win)
- have a magic number of 2 with the Jazz (Blazers win, Jazz win)

Updated for 4/12 games. Both the Jazz and the Hornets won last night. Friday night will hopefully knock at least one of them out of the playoffs as they play each other while the Lakers play the Trailblazers.

playoffs here we come, suns watch yourself. odom,kobe and kwame are at their career bests...we have 3 players...were in good shape...now only if someone could take care of marion we would be in really good shape..

The Lakers and Jazz both won, so the number is down to 1. Win and they're in. Of course, they may not have to since Utah is visiting Dallas on Sunday then San Antonio on Monday.
Also, the magic number for the 7 seed is 2. 2 more Laker wins, 2 more Kings losses, or 1 of each will put the Lakers on a postseason collision course with the Suns.

Sacramento won so there was no change in the numbers except that the Kings have one less game remaining. The Lakers can clinch a playoff spot tomorrow by beating the Suns or by Utah losing to Dallas. They can also clinch 7th if they win and get a little help from New Orleans who plays Sacramento.

Updating a little early tonight since it doesn't look like the Kings are going to lose to the Hornets. But who cares? The Lakers are in the playoffs with their win over the Suns!

A win over New Orleans on Wednesday does a few things. They finish the year a season-high 8 games over .500, 11 wins better than last season. They lock themselves into 7th for the playoffs (assuming the Kings don't lose the night before). They end on a 5-game winning streak and with a record of 11-3 (.786) over their final 14 games of the season.
