Right now, I think the Lakers are more likely to catch the Clippers than the Grizzlies.

If the Rockets had lost last night, I was going to drop them from the list. I will probably drop them soon.

Yeah, the Rockets are getting close to technical elimination anyways.

They'd not only need to nearly win-out, but they'd need 3-5 teams ahead
of them to all simultaneously collapse to move into a playoff spot.

Just ain't gonna happen.

Jazz and NOK losses last night help give us some breathing-room.

Honestly at this point we're sitting pretty solid - just gotta take care of
those critical head-to-heads against anyone near us and handle our
home-court.

Tonight was a very important win. We've lost a million games this year to terrible or subpar teams on our home court in which we frittered away late game leads.

If we're gonna make the playoffs we have to keep nonsense like that to a minimum.

If we win the upcoming New Orleans game, I think we're in good shape, especially since they've been playing like ass.

Memphis won. No chance for the 6th

why not?

I could see the clips losing anywhere from 7-9 games in the coming few weeks. if the grizz continues to improve, then they would move up to the 5th slot. remember there are ONLY SIX games separating the Clips from the Hornets. If we start playing consistent, we could possibly beat out the clips (I doubt the Grizz, who's schedule is pretty weak).

Code:

Team      Wins   Losses   Games Left
Clips      39      29      14
Memph      40      29      13
Laker      36      34      12
Kings      34      34      14
NOK        32      35      15

Here's my prediction: We'll win 46 (how many times have I stated this since June 05? ). Yikes!!! we've got to go 10-2 ......... well it's do-able...... I think!?

And let's say the clips win six and lose 8***. what's their record? 45-37?

Phoenix gets the 2nd seed. No one in the Pacific Division will make up the 7 game loss difference vs. Phoenix. these guys are too solid in the regular season.

Denver gets the 3rd seed (being in the patsies division).

4th seed: either Dallas or SAS (Probably the Mavs).

Updated for 3/26 games.

Dropped the Rockets from the post.

It's hard for me to see the Lakers falling out of the playoffs or catching the Clips or the Grizzlies. I think the only real question to be answered is whether the Lakers are the #7 or the #8 seed.

I gotta agree with you dennis, the clips winning in PDX would've made the scenario a possibility. however, it goes almost into the category of "pipe dream."

dunleavy's done an excellent job with the clips (as he had with the trailblazers).

here are the games that will be acid test for the clips. if the clips win any of the aforementioned "key games," from here on in, you may as well write the clips in at the #6.

the most important issue for us, is that we go into the playoffs with solid momentum. and we do NEED to beat the clips come 4/9. a loss there could be devastating to our young psyches.

as for the waning possibility of catching the clips; may as well forget about (with their two wins of late. they have just two key back to backs ( @ phoenix (after denver game) & vs dallas following the laker game).

otherwise, pencil us in for the #7 (unless something drastically happens ).

Quote:

Sun 4/2 @ Sacramento key game; potential loss

Tue 4/4 Denver

Wed 4/5 @ Phoenix key game; potential loss (2nd game of a back to back; and a tough one at that)

Fri 4/7 Sacramento key game; potential loss

Sun 4/9 @ L.A. Lakers key game; potential loss

Mon 4/10 Dallas key game; potential loss

Wed 4/12 Portland

Fri 4/14 @ Seattle

Sun 4/16 Seattle

Tue 4/18 @ Memphis key game; potential loss ... potential battle for clips' 5th, 6th or hopefully 7th position, in the seedings

Updated for 3/27 games.

Hornets continue to slide, this time dropping below the Jazz.

Fantastic post as always.

I'm still worried about Utah. New Orleans seems to be nose-diving. We've got some rough games coming up. Obviously Utah needs to play lights out great to take our spot, but I'm a worrier.

Hoping to see a few losses pile up for them soon to give us even more breathing room.

As in all divisions in both conferences it's the bad and very bad teams that will bite you in the butt.

The last ten game in the season and no hope/much transitions will turn a lot of bottom tier teams into prideful tigers shooting lights out "nothing to lose" basketball and playing spoiler.

I wouldn't discount them or assume they are automatic W's.

I'm rooting for the Jazz or the Hornets to knock the Kings out of the playoffs. If they did, I think you would see a serious implosion of the Kings. Sactown Royalty has a "Goal Tracker" with the following marked through:
Quote:
GOAL#1: OUT OF CELLAR
GOAL#2: THE .500 MARK
GOAL#3: THE EIGHT SPOT

They need to unmark goal #2 as they are beneath .500 again.

I'll second that wish. I'd love to see them take an early vacation. Speaking of SactownRoyalty, check out this goodness:

Things looking awfully nice now compared to a couple weeks back.

I'm not too worried over 7th vs. 8th seed.

To me, it's "who could push us out of the playoffs."

Closest team to us in that vein is the Jazz.

They're 33-37, we're 38-34.

Let's say we go 5-5 over our last 10.

That gives us a final mark of 43-39.

The Jazz would have to close 10-2 just to tie our mark if we go 5-5.

Not making any guarantees obviously, no jinxes here - but that sure is
a nice cushion at this point (especially considering I think we'll do better
than 5-5 personally).

Updated for 3/29 games.

3/31 has a couple of important games:
Jazz vs Clippers
Grizzlies vs Hornets
Lakers vs Supersonics, another bad team that we don't play well against
