I love the way this guy plays.. depending on what we can do with this squad, I wouldnt mind coming back next year with our main addition being Mike James... it seems reasonable and he is able to opt out this summer

Yeah I was one of the few on here talking Mike James up after we missed
out on Watson over the summer.
Even as much of a James-jocker as I was this last summer though, I
never thought he'd break out as much as he has this season.
I like the guy - he's got his couple of flaws, but he'd be a good fit and
I think he plays with alot of heart.
More than happy to pick him up this coming offseason, even if I do
generally preach trying to get guys right now more towards the middle
of their careers. |

Mike James would be really nice, but Toronto will overpay to keep him. They don't want to do anything to upset Bosh, and he will be 31 when the season starts next year.
We should be using the MLE on players still in their mid 20's |

Would make for a solid addition to the roster. But as said, I doubt we can land him since he's getting paid better elsewhere and unless we want to trade someone from our core roster, we ain't gonna land him through trades. _________________ I want to say something about Dwayne Wade, but I fear I may get called for a foul.

If we could sign him, then a Mike James/Smush PG combination would be very solid. |

The PG position should be the main thing we concentrate on right now, because right now we have a back-up PG starting for us and his back-up should be in the NBDL right now. So we do need a good PG. I like the way James plays. And we do need some more veterans on this team. We have one of the top 5 youngest teams in the NBA. Thats why we wont be able to make a run in the playoffs. Because we have no playoff experience outside of Kobe Lamar Walton and George.
Here are the available PGs:
David Wesley, Houston
Jason Hart, Sacramento (Player option)
Jannero Pargo, Chicago
Chucky Atkins, Washington
Gary Payton, Miami
Jeff McInnis, New Jersey (Player option)
Marcus Banks, Boston
Milt Palacio, Utah
Nick Van Exel, San Antonio
Anthony Carter, Minnesota
Tony Delk, Atlanta
Keith McLeod, Utah (Team option)
Jacque Vaughn, New Jersey
Rick Brunson, Seattle
Howard Eisley, LA Clippers
Lindsey Hunter, Detroit
Royal Ivey, Atlanta
Andre Emmett, Miami (Restricted)
Moochie Norris, Houston
Eddie Gill, Indiana
Darrell Armstrong, Dallas
Troy Bell
Mike Wilks, Cleveland
Mateen Cleaves, Seattle
Alvin Williams, Toronto (Player option)
Anthony Goldwire, LA Clippers
Antonio Burks, Memphis (Restricted)
Lionel Chalmers
Aaron Miles, Golden State
Anthony Roberson, Memphis (Team option)
Horace Jenkins
These are the centers:
Tony Battie, Orlando
Lorenzen Wright, PF/C, Memphis
Kelvin Cato, Orlando
Jarron Collins, Utah
Francisco Elson, Denver
Antonio Davis, New York
Scot Pollard, Indiana
DJ Mbenga, Dallas
Greg Ostertag, Utah
Mario Kasun, Orlando (Restricted)
Brian Grant, Phoenix
Jake Voskuhl, Charlotte
Ervin Johnson, Milwaukee
Loren Woods, Toronto
Boniface N'Dong, LA Clippers
Curtis Borchardt, Boston (Restricted)
Ha Seung-Jin, Portland (Restricted)
Pat Burke, Phoenix
Michael Bradley, Philadelphia
Zendon Hamilton, Cleveland
Earl Barron, Miami
I know there's probably more but to name a few. _________________ NBA Championships: 2000,2001,2002,_____

I like Banks. he has played really well since being traded to Minny. Last night he had 15 points, 9 ast, 4 stl, and 5 rbs. He did have 5 TO's though.
Don't forget about Fred Jones from the Pacers. He is restricted though. |

Mike James should have been the target last summer. I knew it, many people on this board knew it but somehow management didn't have a clue. We could have gotten him at a bargain price but now he probably wants a D Fish type contract. |

I know it probably won't happen but I wouldn't mind seeing NVE back in the P&G. I'm not sure he is a great fit but I'd take him over having Aaron McKie back next year. |

NVE departed from the Lakers under very bitter terms. I don't see him every playing in the P&G again. That said, I don't think he'd come here anyway, he's in mercenary mode right now. He's gonna go where the best chance at a ring is. |

Sky's been touting Mike James as a target ever since Horry was still with the team. He was a lot more obtainable back then. |

Obviously, it goes without saying that we should first try to trade for 1 of possibly 5 all-star or superstar players, who will be on the block this off-season. If that doesn't work, then we need to look at trades and FA signings on a lesser scale.
First, we have to be realistic. We're not likely to get Mike James. He'll command a good size contract, which Toronto will absolutely pay. If Toronto lets James walk, they increase the likelihood that Bosh walks. Bosh has stated James is a big part of what he wants to see on the team now and in the future, and the Raptors aren't going to risk finding out if Bosh really means it. Thus, we have to accept that James is a looong shot, though he'd be a perfect fit.
Jason Terry would also be a perfect fit - solid defensively, can stroke it, big guard with decent handles, aggressive and clutch. Plus, with the emergence of Devin Harris, the Mavs might not be willing to match a multiyear deal, which it would take. Terry wants to stay there, so if they pony up the $ he ain't coming. Clearly, depending upon any other trades the Lakers might make, they may be willing to add years to lure FAs (say, if they trade for an impact player under a longer contract, they'll sign FAs to longer deals). I'd like trade for Carlos Boozer and sign Jason Terry. Those would be 2 very nice and realistic additions. Ideally, we re-sign Devean George to a much friendlier contract (which I think is unlikely - Devean will have a lot of suitors this off-season, but he may feel loyal). Sign another player or perhaps keep Jimmy Jackson, if he shows he can contribute - he's a nice veteran player. Really, I'd love to see a list of the cheap FAs. You know, not big names but reliable and steady - like a Jimmy Jackson. Will Eddie House be available? He's been great for the Suns off the bench. Players like that. We could use another shooter, too.
Our youngs should continue to develop, as well, especially our bigs - who I'm most excited about. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the off-season brings. There's going to be a lot of movement this summer, and the Lakers will undoubtedly be a part of it. |
