^^I say Magic is the greatest NBA player and Laker of all time. That much I give them. But to put Jerry West above Kobe? I know he is the logo, but...
Anyway, what do you guys think? |

It appears that an important criteria they are using is longevity with the Lakers. Thus Shaq makes it over Wilt and West over Kobe. Also, Riley over Phil. It's their opinion so I don't have a problem with it.
I wouldn't have said it a year ago but I would now put Kobe over West. Kobe is more athletic, arguably more clutch and has won more championships than West.

Much respect to Jerry West for being one of the all time greats. He is such a huge part of NBA and Laker history. But cmon, individually Kobe Bryant is supreme. There is not a single player past or present that Kobe does not equal or surpass in terms of pure ability. In my mind he is currently the second best SG ever and by the end of his career could be regarded as one of the Top 3 Greatest of All Time. Gotta have him 1st Team All-Laker. |

Norm Nixon over Gail Goodrich? I don't think so! Isn't Goodrich in the Hall of Fame? |

That list looks spot on to me. If everything goes as it should then I'd probably move Kobe up to the first team within 5 years time, but right now I'd keep West there. _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. Call me crazy... but I would have put Horry on the 2nd team... Horry is as clutch as anyone who has ever put on a Laker uniform. His shot vs the Kings will never die... greatest shot in Laker history bar none... He always stepped up like that in the post season... ridicule him all you want for his final year with the Lakers... he had a bad post season... but I'd still want him at forward at least on the second team... Also he could gaurd both the 4 and the 3 spot.
A great player. Deserves mention on this thread.
and yes... Kobe over the Logo... 81 and more championships... make that a no brainer. |

Kobe is the G.O.A.T... so no, don't agree with it at all... after his legacy is over though, there will be no more questions... _________________ “These young guys are playing checkers. I'm out there playing chess.” |

West was more of a 6'2" or 6'3" lead guard. He averaged 27ppg for his career, so he was outstanding. I would give the edge to Magic at the lead guard spot. Kobe is a SG. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that." ~~Martin Luther King Jr.~~ |

IMO, Hakeem should be ahead of Shaq. Hakeem (prime) > Shaq (prime) _________________ RIP mamba |

Imagine Russell as a weakside defender. Rodman and Ben Wallce are poor man's version of Bill Russell. I'd stick Russell at PF too. Considering the other 4 positions are offensive juggernauts. _________________ RIP mamba

You got me there, i was about to put Hakeem as the best center of all time, which maybe he is, however, i went with Shaq because of his dominance, his brute power. |

Angel
Russell was 6'10, in this day and age, he would be the best power forward in the game. |

Just a matter of preference. Would've been nice to see Shaq of 2000 battle Hakeem of 94. Shaq wasn't in his prime when Hakeem abused him in 95.
I think Shaq would've created problems for Hakeem with his brute strength. But I consider Hakeem a more cerebral player. Has more offensive weapons. Both would've gotten fouls on each other.
I give Hakeem an edge in team defense. And with the game on the line, Hakeem can actually take the bigs off the dribble. I wouldn't want to see Shaq at the FT line with the game in limbo either.
As with Kobe versus Jerry, I'll wait til Kobe's career is over before passing judgement. It's a delicate issue. _________________ RIP mamba |

I can definitely understand why Jerry was taken over Bryant. West went to the Finals what, 9 times? First player to win Finals MVP even though he lost the championship? Averaging 40ppg for several series to get the Lakers back into the Finals? All of those underrated Defensive Player credentials?
Yeah, I can understand that. The game has changed dramatically, and I do think Bryant now would whoop West at his peak, but for West's time, in a sense, he was Kobe Bryant. Narrow-minded, dogged work ethic, stubborn, clutch. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

as far as the greatest laker of all time, just because i grew up watching Kobe and still watching him and loving his game and him as a person. of course i gotta say Kobe is the greatest. Magic is a close second tho but if i were to have lived in Magic's generation while growing up, my choice might be different. _________________ When you do something that you truly, truly love doing, you find yourself wanting to do it all the time.
