Frustrated Przybilla Might Bolt
29th March, 2006 - 5:58 am
Oregon Live - It appears that Blazers center Joel Przybilla may not be a lock to return to Portland next season after all.

Reports out of the Oregon Live state that Przybilla has said his future with the team might be in jeopardy because of the way some teammates have given up on the season.

Przybilla has spent much of the season saying his top priority is to re-sign with Portland after the season, but after a dismal second half, which has included 22 losses in 25 games, the 7-foot-1 center says he will look elsewhere this summer unless changes are made.

"When the season is over, it's going to be a big decision for me, and a lot is going to be determined by what team they bring back," Przybilla said. "Because I'm telling you, this is tough, it's real tough."

I feel bad for what's happened to Portland. At first it was laughable, now it's turned tragic. Many of them are good fans, they deserved better. Their future in Portland is in limbo...

Hey now, sign Priz to be our backup center and trade Mihm for a PF or PG.

Blame the Lakers! Every since the first chapter of the "Bling BLing" things have been steadily disolving in Portland...

Paul Allen is likely to move the team and the loudest local grumblings in the northwest is that they'll land in San Diego. Allen has lost in excess of $100 million over the past 4 years and there is no sign of the bleeding stopping. Kinda sad because Portland s actually a great basketball city...

Pryz will be pricey - more expensive than the super cheap Mihm right now.

Yeah, Portland is the west coast version of the Knicks - without the talent or the media coverage. They've got a ton of young punks that think they're a lot better than they are playing for that team. Gotta be tough for a veteran right now and tough for Nate.

And as much as they suck, they keep beating us.

Probably above the mid-level exception. Comparatively, Mihm is making, what, like $4 M this year?

Don't give Blazers fans any ideas. They hate us already, but I think they know what's what. This is what happens to teams that don't exercise fiscal sanity, especially if they're in a small market.

They've trimmed down their team salary considerably over the last 3 or 4 years, but it's still the 12th highest in the league for a roster without any All-Star talent. Eventually, they'll get to a point where they can rebuild but it's going to take a couple more years at least.

I like the idea of signing him for the full MLE and then trading Mihm for Boozer, that's like getting Boozer for free.

Unfortunately, a couple of P-land's wins since the start of 2006 have come at the Lakers expense.

Yeah..I lived in portland for a while...and to see that franchise crumble is down right sad...

Pryz is an amazing player...I'd love to have him..but if Kwame continues to play this well...we need a PF who can play solid D..not a C..

our problem is interior D..not necessarily PG..our guard defense will improve with a solid defensive bigman...then our guards can send those slashers and drivers to a shot blocker...

If you're a big man, you get AT LEAST the MLE. Look at some of the stiffs in this league with long contracts on the MLE - Skinner, Jerome James, Scalabrine, Olowakandi, Mark Blount. Those guys are all awful. Pryzbilla is actually decent. Someone will give him 7-8 mil at least.

If the guards are getting beat on a regular basis, then they are the problem. We already have a shotblocker in Mihm. If people rotate properly and switch everything like when they play good d, then they are ok. The onus is on the team to show up every night. Kwame is fine even if his offense remains inconsistent, because of how well he handles the bigs.

The Blazers have been thumped since the WCF lose in 2000. since then they haven't been the same mentally as a team but right now there young and quite frankly when they unloaded all the old Blazer players such as Rasheed & Damon then you knew that Organization was doomed.

Allen should hire Ben Howland as GM and coach to turns things around in Portland. The problem in Portland is that they picked And1 players- one on one guys, all show with no go and not tough players- same problem as UCLA with Lavin and corrected by Howland. Of course Howland likes UCLA and UCLA will probably hold him to his contract so this is probably a pipe dream- but people with 10s of billions of dollars have ways of making their dreams come true- maybe a $100 million or two tax deductible grant to UCLA should do it

I saw this article early this morning.

My thought were that this exactly the mentality we want from any future additions to this Laker squad. I've seen that others recently have spoken of this.

Were there a way for Przybilla to land on the Lakers...to choose the lakers...that would be an extra slap in the face.

Of course some one would have to move for him to come in. If a big deal is made early in the summer, maybe there would be space for him if he wanted to play for a reasonable contract.

Smush's D hasn't been a problem since Mihm went out. It takes two to defend the pick-and-roll, and I guess Kwame showed and recovered better than Mihm.

Wait a minute. Mihm PPG 10.2 Pryzbilla 6.2
RPG 6.4 6.7
APG 1.0 .7
BPG 1.26 2.23
FT .716 .535
Mihm has two years experience with the triangle. He has a much lower salary. Why would you trade
him for this dubber?

As the old saying goes, you can never have too many bigs. By getting Pryzbilla, you could move Mihm for a starting PF or point guard.

Looking back, we made a huge mistake in not trading Mihm for Francis(who's an upgrade over Jason Terry, who everybody wants.) If we could sign Pryzbilla for the MLE to replace Mihm, that's like getting an All-Star caliber point for free.

To be a championship contender, not merely a good team, I think we need both, better guard defensive play AND better paint defense by our bigs.
