You tell me. of course I'm going with the hometown hero in Smush. off the mere fact i didn't know who the guy was really, prior to him being a laker and playing well this year. I did know of Boris Diaw in Atlanta even though he wasn't doing jack. So who do you go with. a guy like Diaw that had hidden talents never to be used in Atlanta. Is that most improved or just now the guy has an oppurtunity to play the game his way?
IN Smush's defense. the guy went from a no namer being bounced around from league to league, team to team, into a starting pg for the best bball franchise in the business. all the while running the triangle. a very complexed offense. unlike phoenix's offense. where its free willing.
What has smush developed right off the back? a reliable 3 point shot. That was the biggest knock on him. Could he hit the nba 3 with any consistency. the answer is yes. he aint a hired gun. but if you leave him open he will probably make you pay. He does play defense. yes in the last few games we have seen him with his hands on his knees and even in those games the guy manages to rip his man or someone elses man at least once per night. Boris is also a good on ball defender, maybe better then smush at moving his feet. but at the same time boris doesn't have to guard nash, Tparker, chris paul.
anyway, my vote is for Smush. the stats are close if you understand that boris plays closer to the bucket so his fg% will be higher then smush's. and if you also understand that a triangle pg is not your tradition pg, therefore his assist dont mean much, as long as you have atleast 3. you're doing fine. plus if you pass it to kobe, your assist is gone unless its a fast break. because kobe will take a dribble or two. to finish his move. Diaw has the luxury of passing the ball to shooters, that will shoot the moment the rock hits their hands. plus their offense gives them a ton of extra possesions on the lakers. thats another reason all of diaws stats are as high as they are. you slow phoenix down. and boris diaw's stat sheet takes a hit. |

I go Diaw here, but you've also gotta consider David West on the Hornets.
I agree, Smush has a good case behind everything you stated above, though he doesn't seem like he's on the media's radars.
Ultimately though, Diaw seems to have made more impact considering he's really helped them through the losses of Amare and K. Thomas while being a nightly triple double threat.
Yeah, I know, where would the Lakers be without Smush starting at the PG (I shudder to think), but IMO Diaw has had a bigger impact. |

between Diaw and Smush, it ain't even close. Diaw is a damn good player while Smush is something of a liability as a starter... _________________ -

I agree with your basic premise here Vlade, and even agree with you on the Diaw selection. However, same as with MVP, it's all in how you define it. Even though Smush shouldn't be starting, if we're measuring the amount of improvement a player makes from one year to another, it doesn't matter if they should be starting or not - all that matters is the leap they have made from one season to the next and Smush is probably right there with Diaw.
Damn vauge definitions... |

yeah, so would I. but thats why i left him off. so it can atleast be a discussion. kind of like how they leave kobe out the mvp conversations from time to time. nothing to discuss there. its fact, the guy is the mvp. same logic. |
