"(Allen) Iverson, scoring 33 points per game with two remaining in the season, is about to finish with the highest average for any player not winning the scoring championship since the NBA began determining the winner by average rather than total points in 1969-70. The runner-up with the highest average since '69-70 was Moses Malone, then of the Houston Rockets, at 31.1 in 1981-82, behind the San Antonio Spurs' George Gervin, at 32.3 The Utah Jazz' Karl Malone averaged 31 in '89-90, behind the Chicago Bulls' Michael Jordan, at 33.6."
