Oh he's excited just as we all were. He just does a great job of suppressing his outward emotion. You know deep inside he's amazed at some of the heroics of this kid named Kobe. Dude has to think he's died and gone to heaven to be fortunate enough to have coached MJ,Pippen, Shaq and now Kobe.

Kobe is currently carving out his portion of history and setting himself a nice legacy. He will be one of the games 5 greatest, if not THE greatest.

Rambis is worse, I think he has deep resentment toward Kobe for his falling out as head coach in 1999.

I believe Phil had that face because the officials said they were reviewing the shot to make sure it was good...that's why he was leaning against the scorer's table with that puzzled look on his face.

Phil is consulting with the muses of basketball. Phil knows enough, to treat victory and defeat the same. He's more concentrated on how well the team is coming together, and following the gameplan.

I also believe that Phil knows how things can change in a flash in sports. And this is just one series among many others. There'll be more big shots to come in these playoffs, but he's keepin it all in perspective right now. That shot was worth only ONE WIN. And they need one more to close out and he knows how elimination games are the most difficult. So in essence he feels "we havent accomplished anything yet".

He still has 13 more he needs to string together to make history.

But nevertheless i know i got worked up over this game.

Without a doubt, the ball is out of his hands with 1.0 on the clock!

Game 4 Winner

But Phil has seen so many playoff games, buzzer beaters, if he reacted like Lamar, he'd be in traction today!

True...but after watching the replay many many times...Phil has the "you gotta be kidding me that you are making sure" look on his face.

I like the non-reaction by Phil. He can celebrate during the next championhip parade. Until then, we need a calming, steady "been there done that" attitude on the bench.

It's not that he's being "weird", it's that he's keeping himself under control. He wants to reflect to his team that he always believed they'd win, thus, no reaction. If the shot doesn't go down, then his demeanor reflects a calm belief, which keeps the players calm.

It's part of his brilliance as a coach. How many times do you have to hear his players over the years talk about how his lack of ranging emotions, does keep them calm and believing, before you accept that's what he's doing? I don't think he deserves to be called wierd for that.

Teams take on the personality of their coach. Phil is a one cool confident cat. Nothing phases him. When we get some terrible calls, he just looks at the refs and smiles. He has this swagger - a sense of invinsibility. When you look at his tenure in LA, we have had far more than our share of impossible wins and come backs as though we just can't lose.

Tip your hat to the best ever.

Phil has been there so many times in his coaching career. It's nothing new to him.

When I saw Kobe 2.0 calling someone else weird, I had to see the criteria used. Same logic as ever.

I agree. I'm sure in his mind he's pretty excited, but at this point in his coaching career he's learned to not let it show, such that he can be more convincing when talks about it only being one win and how they need to focus on the next one.

I can't remember what his reactions were after each championship.

Remember when the Kings won their first playoff game against our Shaq
and Kobe Lakers?

They started FLIPPPPPPING out like they'd just won the championship.

Mind you, this game had an incredible finish, so obviously our guys are
gonna jump around and be showing a ton of emotion at the end.

But you wanna know why Phil just sits back calmly?

It's cuz he's wary of being like those Kings back then.

You don't pop the champagne before the battle is finished.

Phil knows the calmer he keeps himself in that situation, the more it
broadcasts to the Phoenix Suns that this is what he was already
expecting.

^ Yep, as much as i loved the finish and it was understandable for the celebration, and we were home too. But ,yea i dont want too be like the queens a few years ago, when they beat an average 6th seeded team in the first round and started jumping around in the pheonix arena like they wont the championship....and that was a kings team that was a contender, that was the year we rolled them up in round two in a sweep, on route too a 15 -1 mark.

Phil should play poker instead of Dr Buss...
He has that colonel poker face...

But as far as the game, he has his zen and vision...
It's a journey to get "10"...
.. 1st Rounder Game "W" is nothing to over celebrate...

Make the adjustment to put the game away in 5
(Well atleast the critics had the in 5 right... just the wrong purple)

It's called confidence...it's also the reason why Phil doesn't always call timeouts. He believes that he coached during practice and it's up to the team to execute the gameplan. and if they don't...that's their problem. but I'm glad to see that Phil's changed that up a bit this year, seeing how young our team is. for all we know, Phil was mentally willing the ball to go through the hoop.

if you look at the replay...i think the one lakeshow put up on this forum, towards the end, it shows a close up of the bench. and when it goes in, everyone erupts, and phil is stunned too, as he jerks back on his chair. so for that split second, phil is just as giddy as the rest of LA, he's just so quick to gain back his composure and put on the calm front.

I've only seen him act out one time. That was when Horry hit the 3 and filled just spun around with his arms extended, nodding as if he knew it was going to happen.

it's phil's focus on the objective guys...don't mistake it for ambivilance.

phil's goal is always to win a championship. this is a first round playoff game at home...a game that phil expects to win and doesn't get overly excited when that expectation is met.

of course i jumped up and down and screamed...but phil is more restrained. this is the same guy who went right back to the lockerroom without celebrating after we won the WCF in 03.
