I wish I could but that event was sold out before 59 was finished. It should be a hell of a match |

All the tickets on ebay are selling way below face value for the cheap seats or not meeting the reserve on the best seats. Probably cuz even the face value on 300 level is $200. I hope sellers start dumping in the next couple of days. |

I wish.
Buddy of mine is going, however. Some friends of his bought some tickets... knew he was interested, so they got him one also. Lucky bastard.
It should be an interesting fight. I've never been a Gracie fan (none of them). I respect what they've done for the sport... but was never really a fan of theirs. Though, I do like watching Royce fight. One of the best submission fighters I have ever seen... and like a leech when he latches onto a fighter.
I've got to go with Matt though. Youth and being a phenomenal fighter himself, should carry him to the win. What is Royce... like 90 y/0? |

I'm going with Gracie just based on nostalgia alone. I grew up watching the guy submit some of the biggest people I've ever seen in my life. Some people think he's old small ... those are the one's who don't remember he was a midget 12 years ago as well. Forget his legacy as one of the best BJJ fighters his history - I always though he had a mental edge over anyone he came up against. Think Mr. Miyagi.

Totally agree, but IMO Antonio Rodrigo Nogieura (spelling) from Pride Fc is by far the most amazing BJJ artist Ive seen in MMA _________________ If there is less than a minute to play give the ball to Kobe and let him decide.

Yeah I remember those early UFC matches. Was glad to see that techniqued combined with mental toughness allowed Royce to beat bigger opponents than him. Fascinating to watch him subdue his opponents.
Anyone remember Tank? That guy was the complete opposite of Royce. A big fat dude from Hermosa, but boy could he punch. He'd clobber his first opponents but would always was out of gas in later rounds so he couldn't advance far. Didn't train much and it was just pure bar-room beer fed muscle. |

^Tank would have benifited in today's environment where you didn't have to fight 3 or 4 times. The guy was just so agressive that he could overwhem just about anybody.
I want Gracie to win but think Hughes will win. |

gracie has a weakness. its his striking. the guy is not very effective as a stand up fighter.
if you go to the mat, he is awesome.
but this will prove if age makes a difference in the ground game.
he doesnt make mistakes, once you squirm or slip up, he'll put you in a submission hold.
but up top, he can be jabbed to death. if not just straight up knocked out. _________________ Los Angeles Lakers |

For those people pumping Royce... as if Gracie's are unbeatable...
I give you the name, Kazushi Sakuraba
This guy has dispatched 4 of 'em... including Royce. Means, they all have an exploitable and more than likely... common weakness. 2 of them went down to the hammerlock submission, which is the same move used against their father when he was defeated by Kazushi's mentor. |

Sak is a legend as well. Gracie BJJ is beatable but Sak is a great fighter that has fought the best. I wouldn't take anything away from Gracie BJJ because they can't beat Sak.
Hughes is in his prime now and I think he'll beat Gracie. But I think Royce or Sak in their prime would've submitted Hughes. Hughes has only fought within his weight class while Sak and Royce have stood their own in open weight class bouts. |

But then Wanderley Silva came up and cleaned brazilian's name, and started his own legacy, Sakuraba got beat up twice...for all Brazilians. _________________ www.lakersbrasil.com

I have a hard time discounting Royce. Yeah, he doesn't have an extensive record, but Gracie could surprise a lot of people. Surely, Matt is favored, but Royce has my hopes running high. While Kazishi is a submission genius, he has never submitted a Gracie. Never. Of his 4 victories over the family, 3 were TKOs (fight stopped) and the other was by decision.
I remember in 1994 when Royce Gracie took the UFC 4 Tourney over a beast of a guy named Dan Severn. I never thought that someone 3 inches shorter and 40 lbs lighter would beat Dan. They were both early in their careers and Royce's submission told the rest of the community that he wasn't to be taken lightly. Of his 13 victories, Gracie has 12 submissions. At 92% I don't think anyone can say he can't do it - 'cause he can.
To this day, Dan Severn is still fighting with a professional record of 68-13-7 at the age of 53 years old...and still winning. Royce is only 7 years younger than Hughes. There is no advantage. _________________ Free advertising in Jefe's signature. Inquire within. |

Sweet avatar! What stinks is that when in lived in SoCal I dreamed of watching a UFC event there and attended the King of the Cage, Gladiator Challenges, Neutral Grounds etc and now there are back to back UFC events in SoCal! Wish I could be there but will still watch it on Direct TV. _________________ "Look Dad, I did it". "Look Mommy, I can ride my bike without the training wheels" and so on and so on. Not true, Royce is actually a physically bigger guy. I was watching the hour special on Spike. |
