I'd rather see Butler in Magenta and Gold.

I think I'll start a poll myself.

How many Butler or Odom polls will we see before the end of the summer?

I think we're in the 20's so far.

Well, I like Butler, but he is does not fill a need that Odom does. Odom has been somewhat disappointing. that said it makes more sense to trade Butler. Of course you trade Odom for a big forward with real talent, hmm?

Odom. He can't be dealt for a quality starting 4 given his contract and the shoudler surgery. Butler, a pick and last years can get Boozer or Magloire. Odom cannot. He makes too much for Utah and they don't need him, New Orleans wants to draft Marvin Williams.

The Lakers must add a new 4 that puts the power in power forward or it's right back to the lottery. Only Butler can get a starting 4 in realistic trade. The MLE can't deliver a starting 4, just a nice backup in Birdman. The draft can't deliver a starting 4, the 4's are projects that will require years. The starting 4 can only come in trade, Odom cannot retrieve one while Butler can, therefore Butler has to go. No brainer.

I know you're going to be really angry with Kupchak if he deals Butler pipios, but this team goes nowhere without a new starting 4. Bigger picture prirorities are at play. Come up with a realistic Odom trade for a quality starting 4 and you can keep Butler. Otherwise, vaya con dios Caron.

I dont think this is a fair question because (in reality) we don't know what we can get for one or the other. I might keep one player only because of what the other player could get us in a trade. But if all things were equal I would keep Odom. I just think he is more of a player than Butler, I like Butler's passion and he is a better outside shooter, but Odom was very uncomfortable this season and he was playing out of position plus Odom is more of what we need at this point.

Easy decision for me - Caron should stay and Lamar should go. To tell you the truth, I don't see how Lamar moving to the 3 will make that much of a difference. He might score an extra 2 or 3 points a game, but his rebounds will go down. He has the length to guard SF's, but he doesn't have the lateral speed. He's the prototypical 'tweener, only he comes at an 8 figure price tag. He's good but he's just not worth that kind of money in my eyes.

How many SF's could actually take Lamar Odom off the dribble? Rashard Lewis...no, his handle isn't good enough. Peja...no. AK-47, no b/c he lacks above average ball handling skills as well. Maybe Marion b/c he is lighting quick. The only the guy that could probably consistently take Lamar off the dribble is Ron Artest who has deceptively good handles but he's not that nearly as quick as Marion or Kirilenko.

Both are worthy to have a longer probation. I think if we had a better PG and coach, as well the inside depth, the current team will certainly build chemistry.

Agreed.

However, that's assuming we can land Boozer or Magloire with Butler. If we can, great.

However if we can't, then we must not force a trade just to get power at the 4. We need to be patient Sky, and only do good deals ala Magloire/Boozer

No Kwame. No moving up in the draft unless it's for Bogut. No trading for unproven starters.

I'd keep both and start Kobe at Point Guard, Caron at Shooting Guard and Lamar at Small Forward with Lamar switching to Point Guard on offense.

I even think Phil would consider this lineup...

If it's yellow and gold, it definitely has to be Odom.

Why did you resurrect this thread? Was it for the sole purpose of padding your post count by saying wtf? to speculation that occured back in May of this year? Seriously, what was the point of the rehash?

Toward the end of last season, Kobe and Butler got something going, between them. I don't know if the Lakers had already decided to "showcase" Caron, or not. What I saw is that Kobe and Caron were in sync together, and acting like another "Dynamic Duo".

Having said this, however, I think that Odom has the potential of establishing the same harmony, with Kobe, if both parties agree. In addition, Lamar brings his long arms, height, and rebounding ability. Many people (including coaches) have also pointed out Lamar's ballhandling abilities.... [okay]...
