PostPosted: Fri Jun 02, 2006 7:47 pm    Post subject: Who is Shaq's "Good Friend"?

Right after the game ended the BSPN reporter went to get a few comments from Shaq. He was a bit distracted with other players coming up to him but she finally got to ask him how he was able to come back and play so well after a poor performance in the last game.

Shaq answered that he didn't like to have two bad games in a row and that a good friend of his had called him and told him to come out strong, etc.

She asked who his friend was and Shaq said that "everybody knows him" or "You know him" (something like that- paraphrasing here).

She asked him again who his friend was and he leaned over and muttered (as he does) a name that caused me to doubt my hearing. I'm not sure if I heard it correctly though.

Anybody else catch that? What friend of Shaq's called him to advise & encourage him?

I heard the entire interview and he indeed did say that his "good friend" was Kobe Bryant. I couldn't believe it when he said it, and I'm not sure if it was intended to be a joke or not. If it wasn't a joke, than he just won back a fan.

I also heard him say Hubie Brown. It was tough to hear because of the loud crowd, Shaq's mumbling and the lousy ESPN audio. But, I'm almost 100% sure he said Hubie Brown.

If he were to have mentioned Kobe, the media would have been all over that by now.

I've been lurking around here and there all season FYI.

And what does me posting the name "Hubie Brown" have anything to do with Shaq going to the finals?

I must say though, I'm impressed you both remember me having a preference toward a Shaq-centric offense back when he was here. I didn't realize I made such a lasting impression.

You didn't. I was the other half to those arguments.

Lurking huh? Well I mean it jus seems odd that you would come back and make a post at the same time Shaq is bout to make his appearance in the finals sans Kobe. Maybe you jus got tired of posting...maybe.

I didn't see it, but come on. Why on earth would Shaq say, "you know him. HUBIE BROWN."? Seriously. Hubie Brown? Hubie Brown is not Shaq's good friend and if he was talking about Hubie, why would he allud to you knowing him like he was setting a promo for announcing Hubie?

Perhaps Shaq really respects and loves Hubie, but that sure seems odd. It's far more likely that Kobe would call him and tell him to seize the day and do what he does. Kobe is perfectly capable of something like that and despite the animosity that has existed in the past, you don't spend 8 yrs. of your career and 3 titles with someone and NOT have feelings of caring for one another. Emotions run deep, that's why it could get so intense.

Kobe should stay away from Shaq at all costs. Shaq is not a loyal teammate. He's two faced...one minute he calls Kobe the best player of all time then the next he calls him selfish. I didn't see the Shaq quote but if it was Kobe wouldn't BSPN hav it on the front page? Kobe should never have any contact with Shaq. I hope Dallas drops him and the Heat like a bad habit.

By lurking I mean posting every once in a while, over the last several months.

Oh...I guess I missed them. If they weren't about how great Shaq is then that's probably why.

After the Mavs knock Shaq out of the finals, GLB will disappear for another 9 months.

I'd bank on that as well. Shaq fans are in full force right now.
