yeah, i saw that and i hope its not a legit story because toronto would be STUPID to turn that down.

JO, even though has a huge contract still has a lot of years left in him. this years draft is weak and a #1 pick doesnt always turn out well (see kwame , olowakandi, etc)

Not saying they couldn't make it work, but the Raptors would probably have to give up another player or two in order to work out the salaries since absorbing O'Neal's contract would likely put them over next year's cap.

I don't know if it's that stupid.

The Raps already have Villanueva and Bosh at the PF slot. Yeah, Villanueva played SF last year, but it's not his natural position. You could put JO at center, but Bosh and JO play the same kind of game and they'd both be in the post bumping into each other. Plus, playing center is what's contributed to the fact that JO has also had injury issues almost every year. Also, JO probably doesn't want to go to Canada and a losing team which could lead to some attitude. Add JO's max contract and this might not fit into the re-building plan that Colangelo is putting in place of starting with youth.

So the alternative is what else you could get with that pick. This year's draft is admittedly weak, but they may really like a player. Or they could trade this pick for a different player, trade down in the draft to get a player and a pick, or package someone like Villanueva and the pick for a different star that plays a position other than PF.

Let's see what the Raps do before killing them about it. Colangelo did a great job in PHX and odds are he knows what he's doing.

It doesn't matter if JO would work out in Toronto or not, he's a better bargaining chip than the #1 pick is. Toronto should make that trade, even if they just turn around and send JO somewhere else. Hell, make the trade and send him to Philly for AI or something.
