From my own experiences: You know you're in Southern Cal. when you make a long trip, on the freeway, late at night, pass by 3 accidents, stop to help an overturned car, nearly get hit by a tire bouncing up and down the freeway, and an out of control car... When you get home, and they ask: "Trip okay??", you respond: [yawn] "Just the usual"...
