Quote:
Kobe just said it on Comcast SportsNet in Philadelphia. he's in town for a basketball clinic and they asked him on camera about the AI trade situation.

from memory...

"Id love to have AI on the Lakers. I want him. Everyone says there wouldnt be enough basketballs between us but i dont believe that. It would be terrific."

Kobe, AI, LeBron, KG

The Lakers are going to be pretty crowded.

We might as well get Shaq back too and have him demand to be the centre of all plays

Is someone going to sign for the MLE to help make that happen?

Who wouldn't want a gunner like AI on their team. It's less load for Kobe. It'd be a dynamic duo.

We can certainly do better than whatever Boston must have been offering.

Big deal. What do you expect him to say? "A.I. is nice but I'd prefer KG or JO?"

Can't believe we're making this some big deal. It's like someone asking Carmelo if he'd love to play with Dwayne Wade. Of course he's going to say that it would be awesome. All superstars say that about any player they're asked about, and I'm sure it's genuine - but it doesn't mean more than that.

Yeah, Kobe knows not everyone will like him. He's like "(bleep) it."

Good post LakerJam. I wouldn't make too much commotion about Kobe's comments.

Not really.

It was dead-on commentary. I thought the exact same thing, from just reading the thread title.

I can guarantee Kobe would say the same thing about any All-Star caliber player and probably quite a few others. Its called, "respecting your peers".

 If Kobe said he wanted to play alongside his father too you think the Lakers should go sign Jellybean?

It's very intriguing, but no. Wasn't too thrilled about Malone either when it was in the rumor stage, but came to accept it through time.

Pretty much. I'm sure Kobe would love any all-star on his team. Would he like Dirk? Yes. Would he like Pierce? Yes. Would he like McGrady? Yes. Would he like Wade? Yes. Would he like Yao? Yes. Etc, etc. Kobe wants to win, he wants to play with other great players who want to win. So yes, its genuine, he respects AI's game, and if Mitch came to him and said, hey, I'm trading for AI, I don't think Kobe would complain (Phil is another story).

What Kobe didn't say is that he'd like Mitch to trade to get Iverson. Then you could make something of this. Short of that, move along, nothing to see here.

Seriously, that would be a horrible move, regardless of how much Kobe would love playing with him.

Of course he would want AI, didn't they work out together. I think Kobe got his respect after he did this:

AI is a very good alley oop passer.

Not as good at that as the young NVE (it was criminal how easily NVE and a young, semi in shape Snaq converted alley oops) but very good at that indeed.

Kobe knows he would average 4-6 pts more per game just on perfect passes at the rim. AI has passed well in that way to Iggy, who is the poor man's (very poor man's) Richard Jefferson.

But I digress. AI? I think not. But if you had told me 1 year ago Mitch was going to go 5 yr MLE on VRad (a move I LOVE by the way) I would have told you that you (or I) was crazy.

AI and Kobe would be a sick combination because either against single coverage is death. And Nash, Parker et al aren't going to be consistently punking my man AI every game.

Do it Mitch
