mike, what did you think of Bynums explosion?
Did you notice any improvement? Sure seems like he still has to gather himself. |

The way he played the rest of the game was excellent. Really, I can't say enough about his decision-making and subtle playmaking abilties. |
You don't mind all that dribbling he was doing?--especially in traffic getting ripped? Maybe it's because I think real highly of the kid, but I was pretty disappointed in his showing today. He did hit a couple of Js, which was nice to see, but it seemed like he was trying too hard on offense, IMO. |

Bynum still kinda slow to react and still lacks hops. He needs to work on those things. |

I was there...Pinnock is a keeper....a mini Wade....Famar's game is a little like Parkers (smooth).......Bynum lacks quickness and explosion...attributes that are innate |

By the way, according to CBS, Jordan Farmar had 17 points and 3 assists. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that." ~~Martin Luther King Jr.~~ |

The cow busting out some Michael Jackson dance moves and then appears to be doing the crip walk. Funny stuff. And Bynums high socks, covering up his weak calf muscles? |

Farmar: I was really impressed with the way he ran the team. He has an innate leadership quality that really came across. Aside from that, he played some decent D except that he tends to go under screens a little too often.
Pinnock: I really liked what he brought on D and O. He played pretty good man D and played the passing lanes pretty well. On O, he did a good job of attacking - staying aggressive. I really liked that because he was frustrated in his first couple minutes on the floor. He seemed to make good use of his brain and his athleticism (Wafer did not).
Wafer: Huge disappointment, IMO. He didn't really do anything of note and I heard him try to admonish Green when in fact it was he (Wafer) that was out of position. He's an impressive athlete but not much more.
Bynum: He did a few good things (post moves, changed some shots) but he was very slow and lumbering. He's not that great of an athlete. He doesn't get off the floor fast enough, he doesn't fight for his post position hard enough and he lets himself get boxed out too easily. I don't know. There are some things he can improve upon but I wouldn't say that the sky's the limit for him.
Green: I like the kid but if given the choice between him and Profit, I'd take Profit. The reason why I bring up Profit is that I think they are pretty similar. They bring the same things to the table, IMO.
Douthit was decent for a single-game performance. I liked the way he finished around the basket and pulled down a few tough boards. I just don't think he merits a roster spot.

A little. Yes, he still needs to gather himself.

Well, considering he actually knows how to run the offense and usually gets picked when the other players should be ready to receive the pass but aren't, no, I didn't even think he dribbled that much at all. Yeesh, I don't even remember him dribbling more than 4 times.
Speaking of traffic, that's expected, considering how poor the triangle was executed today. I think it only worked 3 of the 10 or 12 times they actually ran it. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Hey Mike,
Thanks for the recap. With how much Smush Parker and now Jordan Farmar go under screens, it makes me wonder if that's what they are told to do by the coaching staff. Do you think that's possible? |

Well contrast the defense to last season, where Parker did a far more effective job fighting screens (at least he did that half the time) and applied full-court press for almost the entire game.
Farmar went behind every screen, and only applied FC press once, where he was able to anticipate a pass and get a steal for an uncontested layup. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

I'd rather see a better demonstration of defense. Wafer does an excellent job widening lanes when players drive on him. Keeps up very well without committing fouls. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Thanks for the recap, Mike.
I have a couple of questions:
A) I realize that strength will be an ongoing process for Bynum over the next few years. With regard to conditioning, however, you noted improvement. How much of an improvement are we talking here? Can you classify it as a non-issue now (in terms of big men)?
B) I heard a radio report yesterday (AM-570) from the SPL. The reporter also noted the improved S&C, but also noted that Bynum's overall "game" didn't appear to have improved much from last season. In reading your report, however, it would seem that that type of analysis would be pre-mature considering the foul trouble he encountered. Can you comment?
C) Those numbers from Roberts kinda caught me off guard. Was it just "his day," or did he benefit from poor individual/team defense? Could you determine his (Robert's) approx. weight?
Thank you. |
