As an identifier of true bandwagoners, I'd like to compare fan estimations at the start of the offseason (Now), the start of training camp, and at the end of the first month of the season. Last summers commentaries had a lot of people saying the Lakers would not even make the playoffs and as the train got moving the bandwagoners started jumping on. Now at the start of the offseason, many of the bandwagoners are back off the train and it should be good fun to watch as many of the same so called fans start attaching themselves to the train as the locomotive picks up steam next season. So I'll use the 50 win mark as the identifier... _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. A Streetwise Smart Bomb, Out of rehab and In denial. I am a true to the bone Laker fan and I hope they win 65 games this year. However, I don't claim to really know how they will do other than I think with an additional year of experience as a team and hopefully some improvement in the personnel, they should do betterthan last year.

Shammond Williams will help us win at least 10 games,
that's why Mitch signed him!!!
So of course we will win more than 53!! |

Agreed. We have signed a "3-pt. specialist," an experienced player with defensive prowess, and now a speedy guard with an ability to hit from deep.
I'd like to think with these signings, coupled with an additional year's experience, that we should be better than last season.

I think what a lot of people are ignoring is the effect of the rules changes on the game. Teams that can't hit from deep are going to find themselves losing games they'd otherwise win and all three of the new additions are EXCELLENT from downtown which helps Kobe immensely sense it'll automatically negate any triple teaming and even double teams will start to prove unhealthy for Laker opponents. This helps Kwame as well since it unclogs the lane of that third help defender opposing teams throw at Kobe. Kwame is good at creating space for offensive rebounds, and his job will only become easier with one less body in the lane. If Radmonovic does nothing more than stand at one spot beyond the arc and never move a muscle, a defender will still have to guard him since he's lethal with an open look and good even with a man on him. Watch how much the middle know opens up for Lamar, and if he's working on going left like he said he would - then the potential is sweet indeed.
The Lakers have "System" players and people who are proven in particular roles. A lot of these players would not be the best fit for different systems, but they are very complimentary in the Lakers system. Oh and it's worth mentioning, I think Shammond will definitely be coming off the bench, whether Smush is the starter or not. Shammond, Luke, Cook, & Sasha gives a 1-4 three point shooting prowess that'll stretch the defense as a second unit. Not many teams can say that, and it should pay dividends with the new rules... _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. A Streetwise Smart Bomb, Out of rehab and In denial. we have guys who can shoot now!
i think with our added experience with our very young team, coupled with our added offensive threats,53 wins is definetely not out of the question. |

Odom will be the Odom from the second half. Kwame also will be the player we saw end the season. Adding the additions of Vlad Evans & Williams should give us about 7-10 more wins. Lakers will be top five in the West. _________________ "Formerly known as The_Butler_Did_It"

If they unexpectedly underachieve, that sucks. If they unexpectedly overachieve, then great. However, I don't see how realistic expectations going into the season have anything to do with bandwagoning. |

Whiner. Go watch the (bleep) Clippers. We'll make the (bleep) playoffs. _________________ "In essence, the trade was: Shaq, Rick Fox and Gary Payton for Odom, Kwame, Mihm, Profit, 2nd round picks, a 1st round pick and 30 million in luxury tax saviings." - LakerJam

The people who claim we aren't going to make the playoffs aren't being realistic, but stupid. Any team that has Kobe in it has at least a chance at the playoffs. _________________ "In essence, the trade was: Shaq, Rick Fox and Gary Payton for Odom, Kwame, Mihm, Profit, 2nd round picks, a 1st round pick and 30 million in luxury tax saviings." - LakerJam

50-53 games
Last yr I predicted 47 wins. W/ the recent additions, how could I lower my expectations? _________________ #2 Lonzo

Given no additional moves?
48-50 games and still rightly considered overachievers if we do so.
The lower-half of the top-8 in the West has only improved, while we have
done nothing to be better on paper (assuming the loss of George, and
addition of Radman - we're at least roughly equal on paper).
Factor in that Houston stands a good chance of being healthy (or at least
far moreso than last year's debacle), and that we ourselves had very good
health to our key guys in Kobe and LO last year - and 50 wins would be
an awfully good season for us.
Either way.
I hope we make another substantial move worth making.
But if we don't?
48-50 wins.
And I had us pegged as a "7th or 8th seed" coming into last year - not a
terribly bold prediction given that many of us felt the same, but nonetheless
correct. |

I take into consideration the fact that we lost a good 10 games, most at home due to youth and new system, plus still in the "getting to know each other syndrom".....
So I will up the 45 wins to 50.....
Then I think a full season of lamar doing even a touch better than he finished off would add more, plus Kwame helping more with "hopefully 14 and 9 from start to finish.
Evans and rad will help more than George did in his off and on season.....
Rad spreading the court will pay off big time for Kobe,Lamar, and kwame.More space is vital.
As of now I would say 53 to 55 wins.....
I hope for a new addition to propel us to the 60 win plateau?Harrington..
I quessed 45 last season ( really I did) ....so as of now I would quess 54 to beexact....but am holding out for more,if...........we can obtain another piece in a trade..... |

We will go to the playoffs and if the series against the Suns this year is any indication, I expect better things next post season and I will not rule out a trip to the finals. I believe this is possible especially with #24 in the mix! _________________ "Hate that I'm a veteran and a champion, hate that.

I agree with you on the most part, but you can't be serious with that one. I like Luke very much, but he is everything but a good 3-point shooter.
As for the Lakers next season, I predict about 53 wins |

I think the Lakers will win exactly 50 games this season, due to everyone's better understanding of the triangle and our better 3 point shooting. |

And Kobe will be the player he was in his 81-point game against Toronto, all season long right?
We will be 5th or 4th seed, beat the Nuggets in the first round and lose in 7 games to the Spurs. |

imo making the playoffs this year will be even tougher than last year cause if you look at it, teams like Houston, NO and Utah will be better this season.
IMO these teams are a lock to make the playoffs: Spurs, Mavs, Suns, Nuggets (weak division) and the Clippers. That only leaves 3 spots for the Lakers, Houston, NO, UTah, the Queens and the Grizz to fight over.
This year will be tougher than last year. _________________ "I wish I could draw a picture of the look on their faces..... For a time, it was like he was on the court by himself. It's like God put Kobe here for us to watch him play basketball." - LO On KB8's Performance Against the Clips 07/01/06 |
