|
Haven't seen this mentioned any where. If so lock it.
Quote: | The Los Angeles Lakers have hired Jim Cleamons as an assistant coach.
Cleamons, who previously served as an assistant coach with the Lakers during 1999-2004, re-joins the team after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the New Orleans Hornets. During his prior stint with the Lakers, Cleamons helped guide the team to three consecutive NBA Championships in 2000, 2001 and 2002 as well as an NBA Finals appearance in 2004. In his five years with Los Angeles, the Lakers posted a 287-123 (.700) record. |

Cleamons is major. He'll lineup as 1st assist right under Phil. Also better to groom him to take over (just in case) instead of Rambis, who has a lot of heart but little leadership qualities. Good move. |

Yay Jim.
Kurt Rambis is not the nicest or greatest coach, so the addition of Jim is great. All the championship years coaches are back.
I like Jim. Remember when he took over for Phil game 3 or 4 of the 2003 series against the Spurs and did a great job? |

Wanted this to happen last year, but it couldn't. Rambis should be moved off the bench to some special assistant or something. |

That's great news.
Jimmy coming back is as significant, if not more so, as acquiring a good player.
Easily one of the best assistant/X's and O's coaches in the last 15 years.

Who says Phil has no pull in the front office? Glad to have Jim back with the team.
Wonder if another player has to sit on the floor or one of the assistants gets the dishonor of having to sit behind the players like they did with Bertka? |

Thought I was the only one who felt that way about Rambis. The guy just doesn't seem to demand respect. If he ever gets another head coaching job I could see him having some problems with players. I wish someone else was coaching for us in the spl. |

Who cares about how nice he is, he's paid to coach, not to be nice. We don't need yes men. Regardless, I like that Jim is back. _________________ "In essence, the trade was: Shaq, Rick Fox and Gary Payton for Odom, Kwame, Mihm, Profit, 2nd round picks, a 1st round pick and 30 million in luxury tax saviings." - LakerJam

He seemed to do well when he had the head coaching job with the Lakers. He just had the misfortune of Phil being next in line. _________________ "In essence, the trade was: Shaq, Rick Fox and Gary Payton for Odom, Kwame, Mihm, Profit, 2nd round picks, a 1st round pick and 30 million in luxury tax saviings." - LakerJam

It's been a long time since Jim Cleamons played for the Lakers, but his Lakers connection goes back to the 1971-72 that won 69 games in the regular season. His team included Jerry West, Gail Goodrich, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor and Pat Riley. _________________ "Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Cleamons hiring is a safety net just in case Phil has medical problems. My 2 cents. _________________ Let's Go Lakers!!! |

Lakersfield hit the nail in my opinion. I expect Shaw to be in charge of the NBDL team. People forget but Shaw was actually coaching highschool basketball before we called him up 6 years ago. |
