ESPN - Kevin Love, rated number two in the high school class of 2007 behind O.J. Mayo, appears to be heading to the Los Angeles area. The consensus is that Love will announce on Tuesday that he will attend UCLA instead of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Mayo has yet to make a formal annoucement of where he will play, but has reportedly told the staff at USC that he will be attending school there.

Stan Love, Kevin's father, a former Oregon and NBA player, said only Monday night that "he's 17, so how do you know what they're going to do.''

Love could be one of many players from the 2007 class that spends just one year in college, along with Mayo, Bill Walker, Derrick Rose, Eric Gordon and Michael Beasley.

Good, prolly the best player to come to UCLA since Baron Davis.

...now if they can just lock up Kyle Singler too...

That's a confusing article. To me, the article could read that he's either going to UCLA or to USC. The article on ESPN.com has no mention of UCLA, only USC.

excerpt.

"Late Monday night, the consensus among multiple sources was that he would go to UCLA over North Carolina. UCLA coaches Ben Howland and Kerry Keating and North Carolina coaches Roy Williams and Steve Robinson were all positioned in the Coronado High gym to watch his Southern California All Stars beat the Texas Blue Chips during the elimination of the Reebok Big Time Tournament. It's official:

UCLA got its next great big man on Tuesday.

Kevin Love, a 6-foot-9, 260-pound big man out of Lake Oswego (Ore.), announced a verbal commitment to remain on the West Coast and attend UCLA, choosing the Bruins over North Carolina.
"Without any further ado, I'm going to be a Bruin," Love said before a crowd of media Tuesday afternoon at the Reebok Big Time Tournament at Foothills High School.

He is ranked the top post player in the rising senior class (No. 2 overall by Scout.com) and an argument could be made that he will have the biggest college impact of any of his peers.

Love admitted it was a difficult decision, but ultimately felt his relationship with head coach Ben Howland, as well as factors such as location and style of play pointed him to Los Angeles.

"With all due respect to both coaches, Coach Howland is the best," Love said. "I've got a lot of love for him and can't wait to play for him. It was a very tough decision, but when it came down to it I wanted to stay close to my family and friends."

Love, who led the prestigious ABCD Camp earlier this month in scoring and rebounding, also said he welcomes the challenge of trying to become UCLA next's great big man, following in the footsteps of Bill Walton and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

what's up with all these kids from oregon?
recently I've seen a grip: Damon, Salim, Dunleavy, Aaron Miles, Fred Jones, Love, Singler...

I lived there a while and its just weird to think that Oregon would be a breeding ground for ballers...

UCLA might be getting a couple of outstanding players. The run to the Finals must have made an impression.

The KCAL sports just talked about Love signing with UCLA. They said his dad played for the Lakers. They said Love is regarded as the second best college recruit in the country behind O.J..

This is great news!

I've been watching the Bruins for almost as long as I have been watching the Lakers!!

I caught the tail end of the Hazzard and Goodrich years, then have been a hardcore fan since they brought in Jabbar.

They had some fairly lean years with Lavin coaching and it was really nice to see him get fired and Howland taking over.

Howland seems like a great college coach.

Yeah baby!!!!!!!

Go Bruins

UCLA is going to be absolutely loaded in the next 2 years. When Love comes after this season, the team should be the absolute favorite to win it all. This year, they are a definite top 5 team with a chance to win it all.

His dad is Stan Love, who did play for the Lakers from 1973-1975. Stan was born in L.A. and attended Morningside H.S. in Inglewood and the University of Oregon.
