|

Hey guys,
I'm going to be visiting LA at the end of the week for a 2 week stay. I've got a great deal on a flight and seem to have a good minivan rental price as well. The only thing left is a place to stay.
I've been referred to hotwire and priceline by a friend of mine but I'm not sure if I want to take the plunge and bid on an unknown place to stay, though the prices seem to be excellent there. The regular online booking sites all seem pretty close to each other.
Does anyone know if there are any promo codes or coupons floating out there for discounting hotel stays like there are for car rentals? I personally need to be in the Glendale area and I'm not looking for a 5 star room, just a good, clean, reputable place to sleep.
If anyone has any info on getting a great hotel rate or about priceline/hotwire or any trip related advice I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts. Thanks! |

Thanks Vancouver Fan!
I'm checking out all the options out there. The less I spend on a place to sleep means the more I can spend on the trip.
I got hold of a promo code to enter online when booking a 2 week minivan rental and I know there are promo codes out there for hotels too, I just haven't found any for LA yet and that's what I'm looking for. |

I have been burned a couple of times on Hotwire. Their 3 and 4 star hotels are really more like 1 and 2 star hotels in most cases.
Be careful if you go blind, might not be worth the savings. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

LakerLanny, of all the hotels they use and that you've been booked into, were the worst ones at least half decent? |

Yes, as long as you stay at 3 stars or higher on their ratings.
Steer very very clear of the 1 and 2 stars on hotwire. I stayed at one in Boise that was the most hideous hotel I have ever been too. Vomit stains on the carpet, small, filthy room.
But when I have used them for 3-5 star hotels, the savings is definitely noticeable. But what they call 4 stars is more likely a 3 star, etc. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Thanks for letting me know. I may be taking the plunge tonight and trying it out on a 3 star rate but with Priceline as a friend has good things to say about them.
What's your take on Priceline? |

I haven't tried Priceline, but I have used Hotwire about 15-20 times in the past.
One thing you may want to try with hotwire or priceline is go blind but only for 1 night. Once you see the name of the hotel, go to www.tripadvisor.com and read the user reviews on the hotel.
If they (the user reviews) sound good, then go back onto hotwire and priceline and book the rest of your trip as you can usually tell that it is the same hotel because the location, stars and price will likely be indentical.
I have found the user reviews on trip advisor to be very useful on hotels. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Try www.travelaxe.com. You download their program and it searches alot of the major travel websites to get you the best price. I use it for Vegas all the time.
