Dodgers reach tentative deal for Maddux
Ken Rosenthal / FOXSports.com

The Cubs have reached a tentative deal to send Greg Maddux to the Dodgers.

The deal requires the commissioner's approval because it involves a cash transaction of more than $1 million going from the Cubs to the Dodgers.

Bizarre moves today by the Dodgers. They acquire Lugo for Joel Guzman who was the real deal, but trade Izzy for Maddux? Why not keep Izturis at SS and not get Maddux who has won 4 games since April? No idea what they are doing right now...

Maddux is awesome...when you watch replays of his old games with ATL.

I agree...no idea what this team is up to right now.

I like the Lugo for Guzman and Sergio deal. Guzman had a long swing that had holes in it not to mention he didn't really have anywhere to play with the emergence of Ethier and the acquistion of Betemit.

With Lugo, we get a guy that has more speed, and is a way better batter then Izzy( .308 12hrs 27rbi 18sb). Only downside of the trade is that Lugo is a free agent at the end of the season. If we could resign him that would shore up the top of the batting order for years (Furcal & Lugo at the top).

This trade might also mean that Kent's injury is more serious then it seems and he may be out for the season. The same kind of injury had Pujols out for about a month.

its the chicago curse i guess. notice how nomar put up all-star numbers after leaving chicago. hopefully the same for maddux. we needed some pitching badly.

so we got

1st - nomar
2nd - lugo/kent
SS - furcal
3b - betemit
of - ethier, drew, lofton
c - martin

bench: 1b - tomato
OF - ledee, cruz, repko
infield - martinez

sp - lowe, penny, maddux, hendrickson, billingsley, sele

pen - dessens, broxton, beimel, saito, tomko

i think we will make the playoffs if the starting pitching improves back to where it was during the beginning of the year

our bullpen has not been bad and our hitting will pick up again, hopefully nomar isnt seriously injured and soon enough matt kemp will be brought back up

We finally get a household name but an over-the-hiller for sure in Mad Dog.

Let's hope we can aquire some real talent and power in the offseason ala Berkman, Soriano, Dunn.

Maddux should be a great influence on guys like Billingsley/Broxton. His influence on the young guys could impact the Dodgers a lot more than what he does on the mound.

I like the trade. We bring some stability to the middle of the rotation and all we give up is duplicative talent. Don't get me wrong, Izturis was a fan favorite but for the money, I don't think he gives the team enough. His offense is mediocre and while his glove is good, it's only good at SS. At third or second, he's just ordinary.

I'm all for it.

I'm not sure how I feel about giving up Joel Guzman for a rental in Lugo. Since Colletti's other moves have been solid, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Maddux will likely be the rental if anybody is. If he's re-signed it will be for much less money. It will be expensive, but Lugo should be re-signed. The Dodgers need his hitting.

Overall, i like the moves today. i didn't like how Izturis was treated this season, but i'm happy that he's going to play everyday with the Cubs. Hopefully change of scenery helps Maddux start pitching like he did at the start of the season when he was 5-0. Go blue!

Maddux said he was excited to go to L.A. He has family in Las Vegas, so he was happy to waive his no-trade clause. At 40, it should help him balance his life. Hopefully, Maddux has something more left than .500.

As a Padres fan I love it. Not as much as I loved the Loduca deal, but love nevertheless.

The Dodgers should be somewhat improved in the short run.

They had to do something to keep their quickly fading playoff hopes alive.

The word on Guzman is that his attitude got REALLY bad after other guys made the show before him. They also questioned where he would fit as a starter. There is still a logjam of kids:

OF-Repko/Kemp/Ethier (and Drew)
IF-LaRoche/Bettemit/Furcal/Loney/Lugo

Having said that, it appears that Lugo is a rental as he insists that he is a shortstop and will go free agent this fall...

Guzman will go on to be the next Soriano. Could be the worst trade of a rookie since we traded Konerko for Shaw or Pedro for Deshields!!

Why is Ned so damn impressed with the Devil Rays, they are CRAP!!! Stick to picking up winning players from the Red Sox and Braves and you'd do better.

I like the trade! I'm hoping Maddux can excel in the pitcher friendly confines of Dodger stadium. I like the Lugo deal too! With Kent and Nomar out, the Dodgers needed to get someone in who can hit, and he has been on fire.

That's what I heard about Guzman too. Attitude problem...ship him out.

Best of all, it sends the message to the team that it's not too late! Don't give-up, you are only 5 games out. You can get back up there.
