so I didn't buy a TV tuner when I bought my new computer last year, even though I have the "media center edition." the price was slowly creeping up and it was one of the last things I took out of my cart.

any suggestions? what'd I like to use it for is to transfer some old stuff from vhs to dvd (I don't have a dvd recorder, just the dvd burner on my computer) and record occasional episodes of some of my favorite shows and make clips.

I've been using the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 MCE for a year and it works great.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00064GI2O/ref=nosim/104-8683302-2851955?n=172282 ($64.84)

Or you can get the dual tuner model...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006G33UW/ref=nosim/104-8683302-2851955?n=172282 ($140.99)

I just want to note that you can buy a single tuner card and later add another single tuner card to enable the same functionality of the dual tuner. Although it will take twice the amount of physical space inside your computer.

was it easy to install and did you need to buy anything extra?

It’s easy to install just as long as your comfortable opening your computer and plugging in an expansion card. It doesn't come with a remote control, but there's another slightly more expensive package that does if you want one.

I'm sending you a PM with another piece of info.
