I have XM,.. and they have show that is dedicated to 'progressive hiphop' called Subsoniq (it's on XMU (43)right now for those with XM and/or Direct TV. The show is tight... keep me up on the new underground joints.

Give me ATCQ and the rest of the Native Tongues!!! That's hip-hop...
Throw a little Roots, Common, Outkast, Living Legends crew and a dash of KRS-1 in there, and it's a deal.
I can do that!!!!
Have you heard KRS-One's latest? It's his best in years. And ATCQ is touring!!!

Can't forget about him... or Mos Def.
Read somewhere that Commom, BlackStar (Mos Def/Talib Kweli), The Roots, Slum Village are considered to be in the Native Tongues.

Nice another LL Fan up in this ISH.......almost famous boy.....classic!
Yeah Vancouver Fan, I continue to be amazed that these guys don't bust out bigger than they have. I was a big Mystik Journeymen fan and those shows at their digs in Oakland back in the day were amazing. Best live hip-hop show I have been to is either a Roots show I saw in Barcelona or a Journeymen show I saw in SF.
Then Eligh, Aesop, Murs, Grouch, etc. jumped in and it just got even better...

Yup, all the above, and most of what B_P included in his list above. Just harder to find it these days since there's little to no airplay unless you happen to be in a city with a good underground hip-hop or college station.

Or XM... all those cats mentioned get air play on XM (be it on specific shows)...
Mainstream rap is garbage, Underground is where it's at. Sadly, people these days really like the mainstream stuff so that's why it works more. Either that, or they haven't heard any underground music. Even though I'm against mainstrea, Jay-z is still my favorite

Ha, yeah Snipes, i can understand the Jay-z thing. I'm not a big fan, but I can recognize he's got a decent and distinctive flow. All he talks about is money, ho's, and nothing in particular, but at least he's got some skill with delivery, beats and hooks.
What I can't stand about a lot of the rappers today is they don't seem to have any skill with writing or rapping. They just have producers come up with beats and talk a lot of nonsense over that beat with computers smoothing out the rough edges. Which basically is the same way Paris Hilton made her current album .

Wow, I sound like a curmudgeony old man.
If that's the case, call me curmudgeon!!!
I listen to hiphop/emcees, not rappers.... there is a difference... a huge difference...
B_P... I hear Pharrell and Kanye are doing most of the track for Mos Def's next album... any truth in that??
I think once a rapper gets popular they usually stop rapping about important things and start rapping about money, ho's, drugs, because it seems like those are the topics that interest the mass audience.

Noooo, not this argument again. It's all rap music. just some is bad, some is good, some is commercially popular, some is more local based, but man its all emcees rapping and rappers emceeing.

I really hope that's not true
