My car of 8 years just died an honorable death on me -- after giving nearly 173,000 miles of service in those 8 years. Luckily, I'm getting a sweet deal through a friend of the family on some certified pre-owned cars here. SO, LG, what do you think would be better?
Top 3 choices are:
(1) 2006 Mercury Milan: 14K miles, extended warranty -- $18,000.
-- Dark blue, with beige leather interior
-- 23/31 mpg
-- 6-CD changer, A/C, power everything, ABS.
(2) 2006 Mercury Milan: 16K miles, extended warranty -- $18,000.
-- Silver, with two-tone gray leather interior
-- 23/31 mpg
-- 6-CD changer, A/C, power everything, ABS.
(3) 2006 Plymouth PT Cruiser: 17K miles, extended warranty -- $14,000.
-- Dark blue, gray cloth interior.
-- 20/25 mpg
-- Single-CD player, A/C, power everything, fold-out tailgating tray in the back, no ABS.
Mind you, I got 2 kids and a stroller, a white-collar job, a 20-mi. round trip daily commute, and season tickets to college football, and a pre-approved car loan.
UPDATE: Instead, got a BETTER deal on a 2006 PT Cruiser, Electric Blue, with only 2,473 miles on it!!!!!
Got it for $2,000 less than what a dealership would give me on a new one after 2 hours of haggling.
Plus, a discounted price on LoJack and extended warranty.
Gotta love these guys.

Thanks, Mike. As a UCLA ticket holder, I'm leaning toward the blue cars. And yeah, I used to work with Ford a lot, so I know the deal re: TSBs.
The things we do -- or drive -- to support a wife and kids and pay off school loans, man...
