I thought I'd created this thread seeing as though people are always arguing over which Operating System is better in threads.

Whose going to start?

The anwser is both and neither.... It's like asking which is better, Coke or Pepsi?

It's a personel peference/choice. There is no right or wrong anwser.

True Apple is making a killing on iPods. But I see it as a bigger picture. The iPod and iTunes Music store did something the Apple has struggles with, and that was get 'space' on the Windows user's desktop. They get kudos for that. Now they have to captialize on that,.. meaning translate that into new Mac users (or new OSX users). So far, even though the number of Mac users are rising, the jury is still out.

As far a quality... it depends on your definition? Are we talking easy of use? Security? Compability with other software, etc.?

I hate Macs! Ipods are over rated and only sell because apple has a excellent marketing division...but i give the 30gb some love.

Creative Zen >>>> 5gb Ipod anyday of the week. Sound quality on the zen is so much better.

And your point is...

Beta Max was better than the VCR... better doesn't necessary mean success. Give credit to Apple. They change the landscape of music download, and for the most part, for the better. You think MS would be entering this space if it were not for Apple's success?

BTW, Creative is now an official iPod Accessory Makers.

Quote:
As part of the agreement, Creative will also enter Apple's Made for iPod program as an authorized seller of iPod accessories. Creative will be able to affix the "Made for iPod" logo to its speakers, headphones and other related products, O'Shaughnessy said.

Creative is one of many companies attempting to chip away at Apple's runaway lead in the market for portable MP3 players. Its Zen products haven't translated into profits, however: Earlier this month, Creative reported a $12.7 million loss on slowing sales for its fourth quarter. The company expects the $100 million settlement to add 85 cents to its earnings per share figures for its current quarter.

How does the saying go,... if you can't beat them....

The ultimate winner in this is us, the end user.

I've really never understood the debate. IMHO they are both just tools. I use both and the only time I favor one over the other is when one can do better than the other for a certain task.

As a graphic designer here's where I see some pros vs.. cons.

For Video editing, working with large files, usually print (1gb+ sized files) I prefer a Mac. There's something to be said about the quad Macs their stability and their ability to render extremely fast. Not to mention in the print industry Mac is still the industry standard.

For websites, programming, video games.. It's all about the windows platform. It's a pc world and I'm just trying to be compliant. I actually spend most of my time on a pc when it comes to just surfing on the internet or playing games. The amount of software on the PC platform is just undeniably the place to be.

I spend an exorbant amount of time in front of computers and it always boils down to what can get the job done the most efficiently. For the casual computer user it's really apples vs. oranges and whatever tastes better to the user.

Nope... at least not yet.

You can install Win XP (and Vista) on a MAC, but not the other way around.

The price is about the same XP but more versions. The business edition is the same price as Windows 2000. Most people that would buy it would be the upgrade edition. The best deal is just buy a new computer with it already installed.
