How's this for spooky. Andre's next opponent? B. Becker. As in Benjamin Becker. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks |

Agassi even joked about it. Said it would be funny if he went down to a B Becker that ended his career.
I haven't heard of any these guys that are playing today. I know a few - Federer, Roddick, Nadal - but the rest are all to me. |

When Agassi went down that first game in the 5th set along with the disaster in the 4th, I thought about it being over. His career, everything - ending in such a bad way.
A choke job. That would have been a horrible ending.
Thank god he got through that. The comeback was unreal. He just never quits. The match against Blake last year was just like that, only he was in the Bagdatis role coming from 2 sets down.
I am so proud of this guy. He's the only player I have ever watched tennis for. It's so great to see him have this .... |
That was the most emotionally invested I've ever been watching a tennis match. AMAZING match.. and although I was sneering at Baghdatis the whole time.. that guy deserves so much recognition. He was automatically stigmatized as the badguy of the match.. but hats off to him, his performance, and his closing words.
but the big story is AGASSI is still in the tournament.. and achieved in a dramatic way. can't wait til he plays B. Becker rofl _________________

It was almost like it was scripted. It was that good in terms of drama. Everything was set up beautifully for an epic.
Agassi took an injection just to play. That's how bad his back is. It's sad that he got an injury like that, because clearly he's still good enough to be a top 10 player.
I don't know if there's a better story in sports for the year than this little run by Agassi. Those that follow it already have that feeling. It's just so magical the way the crowd, arena and everything is just on a different level that normal.
We may be in store for something really special over this fortnight. |

Wouldn't it be something else if he could end his career the way Pete did by winning the USO in '02? |

Baghdati deserves to be recognized for not quitting when he could have. He was in serious pain and held it together. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks |

Gotta love agassi. Last years open match between him and federer was a classic. He made you believe he might be able to do it.
I'm rooting for agassi but no matter how far he goes he is inevitabely going to run into the brick wall that is roger federer. |

He would only meet Federer in the Final. In order to get there, he's probably going to have to get by Roddick, Hewitt, and Nadal. Just getting there would be a miracle. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks |

Agassi took another injection yesterday.
You just feel that it's too much for his back to go through that many matches. |

As much as I would love to see Agassi win it all I think it would be infintely better if the fated Roddick/Agassi match happens, and Agassi falls there. I have goosebumps just thinking about that match up ESPECIALLY considering how much both players play to the crowd. It's erie in some ways how Jimmy Connors (who had his own spectacular farewell US open back in the 90's) is Roddick's coach. And no one played to a crowd better then Jimmy. |

Agassi knows Roddick's weaknesses. If he is healthy, I think he will get past him.
However what could end it is the real chance that they will have to play back to back now.
Agassi has to win 6 sets in the course of 25-30 hours to get to the Qrts.
Daunting. I am shocked everytime I see him step up his level with the bad back and age, can he do it one more time and win 6 sets out of 10 over the span of 24-30 hours? |

Having watched Roddick now coming into this tournament (Cinncinati and such) Roddick is playing with a new fire. As much as Agassi may now, this isn't the same Roddick. |

And a great career has come to an end.
I can only imagine what that feels like, to never step out on that stage to compete ever again... |

Sad.
He's still got the shots but his feet and back (basically his body) doesn't let him move the way he needs to. Clearly he was struggling.
Great career. Great personality. Great one.
Thank you, Andre. |

roddick looks like he's beginning the comeback trail against hewitt. you can tell connors has already given him more confidence. he's playing with some fire right now. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

Not a big Roddick fan. He's funny and all but I don't like the way he plays.
Blake, Roddick and the rest of the American tennis clan are too one dimensional.
Big serve, Big Forehand. Excellent athleticism (for tennis standards)
No real art to their game like Sampras and Agassi. Granted I don't watch much tennis unless it's my fav player - but you can atleast watch a guy like Federer and say wow he has some real depth to his game. Same with Nadal. |

true wolf although federer may be the goat. sure he's gonna have depth.
roddick's game is improving under connors. he's even got connors' two handed baseline shot now. you can tell he's playing smarter. roddick needed this guy's help years ago. he's still got the killer serve and now he's got some new tricks up his sleeve. it would be nice to see an american thrive in tennis again. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

Roddick will be a top 2-3 player again under Conners. His style is lethal and he can win atleast 2-3 more majors, Federer and all.
Still I don't see the depth in his game. I don't think he has that ability to really be one of the greatest ever.
Agassi had that ability to keep the ball in play despite having all the shots/power to dictate play from the baseline. That's why Andre won the french - something that should make him a top 5 ever because he's the only guy in the modern era to win all 4 majors. He knew how to play angles and win without power.
Sampras, Federer are the same. They can beat you with power but have the finesse game too.
Roddick or Blake need to add that finnesse game to reach the next level IMO. Nice to see him use the slice backhand, but he's still not comfortable playing without power. |
