Please help me make my decision. I live in an area that has extremly poor radio service and have been thinking about getting sattelite radio for years. Each has pros and cons but Sirius has the NBA package and I'm a basketball nut.

For those in the know ~ please help me with your experiences and opinions.

I have neither, but Sirius is the way to go:

NFL
NBA
Howard Stern
I think Nascar, for those who enjoy watching cars race around in circles (or is it really only the car crashes that draw people?)

XM has......Major League Baseball. Yawn!

Oh, and Phil Jackson has a show on Sirius, I believe.

And best of all, Martha Stewart.

I agree with all above. I had XM for a year and got rid of it...but now have had Siruis for a year now. Music programming is all the same stuff you'll find on either satellite radio system. The extras like 7 sports stations including collegiate, NBA, Nascar, NFL, Stern puts Sirius over the top.

...and of course Sirius Blues 74

There's been talk about merging, but from what I hear, not between the two companies themselves, just outsiders.

As for commercials, I don't know if I'd care that much about commercials. The main things I care about are:

- no FCC involvement
- no cookie-cutter playlists or watered-down programming. I am disgusted by what Clear Channel and Viacom have done to terrestrial radio.

I own it too, and will probably buy more as well.

Sirius without a doubt. XM started out of the gate far ahead, but is fading fast...

I'm with you encina1. Don't forget to include our government (above and beyond the FCC) and the religious fundamentalists they answer to.

And we CAN'T let them do the same thing to the Internet!!! Viva la revolucion!!!

I wasn't sold on satelite radio....until I accidentally discovered my rental van on my LA trip had Sirius. Very nice!

You'll only listen to a select few channels but if they have channels you really like then go for it.

For me, it was mostly "Hair Nation" and "Hard Attak".

Socks, I think you and I have a lot in common. In fact, I contemplated getting into that and making the same comments you did, but then I figured what's the point? JD was just gonna jump in and delete my comments anyways.

Oh, and I should add that my girlfriend has Sirius stock, and Howard Stern made her a lot of money, and she still has stock in it. So buy Sirius, dammit!

Yes he does. It's not reallu ran like you'd think - with Phil as host. Instead, there's a guy named Ian Eagle who has the title of "co-host", which probably sucks for him 'cause he pretty much runs The Phil Jackson show cutting in and out for commerials and such. His main job is to keep the show rolling by asking Phil some pre-set questions and a sometimes a bit of open dialogue. It's alright, though. It's basketball talk which should interest most here.

Siruis!!

I first got it 2 yrs ago as it came with my wife's vehicle. As everyone will attest, it completely changes how your listen to the radio. nothing better than making that monster drive from LA to Mammoth and not have to change the channel...or hit search to find something...anything to listen to.

FYI...they will often run promotiosns where you can get a free receiver and a second subscription for an addtional $6.99/mo. I did this for my car and I take the portable receive with me and "boot" it up in any vehicle I am in now.

Lastly: Sirius programming is far superior. XM, in my opinion, crapped the bed by losing thier NACSAR content to Sirius and by letting siruis get Howard Stern.

For you investors out there....is Sirius still a good investment at a $5+ Billion market cap? Seems kinda on the high side...
