History:
Detroit Gems
1946-1947
Minneapolis Lakers
1947-1960
Los Angeles Lakers
1960-present
What the hell......and I never knew that the Heat retired Jordan's jersey, making them the only team to retire a player's jersey who didn't even play for their franchise, how pathetic.

What's worse is that the Heat retired Dan Marino's jersey too!
Not only didn't he play for the Heat..not even in the NBA!! _________________ "Kobe, Kobe, Kobe and some more Kobe, with a sprinkling of Kobe and a huge fat scoop of double Kobe with Kobe sprinkles and Kobe sauce"

Some team histories don't recognize the Gems, because they existed only one season and dissolved before the NBA came into existance.

IMO, Los Angeles Lakers sounds waaaaay better than Mineapolis Lakers. I mean, just he L's, and the fact that the Mineapolis Lakers make almost opposite sounds. Well, I don't know what it is, but it's something. _________________ Double rings > Double rainbow |

Yeah, I wouldn't be suprised to see the Heat retire Florida residents Tiger Woods and Ken Griffey Jr., how bad do you need jerseys in your rafters? You look up at the Garden and they're running out of numbers, you look up in Miami and in the future you'll see: "Wade" "O'Neal" "Marino" "Crocket" "Tubbs"
Nice find KB24, never had a clue. |

Maybe Miami will retire Kobes jersey after he retires.
I'm guessing L.A. will get to pick if they get #8 or #24 first though.
Oh and they will probably retire Wades jersey before Wade himself actually retires. |

The state is borded by Lake Superior, which itself is linked up with the other Great Lakes, Superior to Huron, Huron to Michigan, Huron to Erie and Ontario. |

So what, theoretically, Connie Hawkins can be retired as #42 with James Worthy? Connie is in the HOF, and the Lakers only retire HOF players, right? Anyway, Go Gems! _________________ Defense is my business, and business is good! |

didn't the guy who bought the gems buy them only because he wanted their draft position (due to poor record), and as a brand new franchise he wouldn't get it. _________________ "I define success by championships, by winning..." Kobe Bryant
