Lakers seem very impressive for their first pre-season game. Give these boys some props.

Can't wait to actually see them on TV this thursday.
Go Lakers!!!

Lakers shot 50% as a team and were 8 of 15 from behind the arc. Not bad...

ok DB, so what do you think of the fact that the score wasn't even close? Jazz just didn't play well, Lakers played better than expected, or should we not care since it was a pre-season game?

The only glaring weakness based on today's game that we have not adjusted to during the course of the game is rebounding. It sucked flat out. Lets' see what is going to happen in the next game...

So, our offensive rebounding is a concern?

Sasha played a great game! He played some of his annoying defense and drew offensive fouls. He also nailed his threes.

Preseason. Half to wait for a game or two to maybe see some trends.

Obviously, last year we lost both of those games to the Jazz without Kobe...but I don't think you can put much weight on this game. Too difficult to say when we're just listening. We were out boarded 52-38. That wasn't good. It didn't seem like AK played much for the Jazz and there were guys on the Jazz out there for extended time who may not be on the team.

Nice to see LO put up some numbers for not playing since July. Evans (11 points) and Sasha had some flurries of action. Farmar sounded as if he played well in his 4 minutes. Walton 11 points 5-8 shooting, 6 assists. Nice numbers.

Guard Battle: Sasha seemed to have a good game, 13 points and decent D (according to radio guys). Smush okay game (13 points I think). Shammond struggled, 5 fouls. Farmar sounded good, 2 steals, 3 points, set up Turiaf for FTs.

Bynum some problems in the post when he was doubled and tripled. Team did a poor job apparently getting the ball in the post, too.

Von Wafer, McKie, and Douthit didn't play.

Excuse me? Did I fall asleep for three weeks or did you mean the first PRESEASON game?

Thought so.

Was at the game, just got back.

Lemme start with the good:

Lamar Odom - Was in midseason form, basically. Looked good and smooth and energetic. He introduced the teams on the mic to the crowd which I thought was hilarious. Hit a three or two. Good game.

Vlade Radmanovic - His shooting was a little off and he missed a couple of layups, but he showed really quick hands, a lot of movement on offense and he's not at all camping outside waiting for three opportunities. He looks more athletic than I expected him to be. When he gets into a lineup with Odom and Bryant I expect really good things.

Maurice Evans - Wow, looking like a really nice pickup off the bench. Hit a lot of shots, brought a lot of energy, played smart basketball. He'll be the guy hitting jumpers when Lamar is in the game and Kobe is not.

Jordan Farmar - For four minutes he electrified the crowd pretty good. Not sure why he did not play more. He had a steal off an inbounds pass and nearly dunked it home from a stand-still but got fouled. He battles on defense, he's smart, basically what you've heard about him is true. When he gets a consistent J he should be a nice PG.

The bad:

Andrew Bynum - Pretty rough night for the kid. Got a couple of early fouls. Had several balls swiped away after the post entry simply because he wasn't totally aware. Several other times, the entry pass was just a little off and either got tipped away or went out of bounds. He scored 2 points. Drew will see better days. I can tell he really wants to do well, but it's like we got a 7-1, 280 pound blank slate that can turn out really good as long as he works hard and we teach him well (which it looks like is happening). He did have a couple of rebounds where his length really showed and a very nice block on a big man trying to get into the lane.

Kwame Brown - Without PJ there to yell at him and Kobe to set him up properly, Kwame looked like he did at the beginning of the year, just rushing every cot-damn shot. Really outta control tonight. He is what he is, a guy that can be very valuable on D and on the boards, and a decent scoring contributor as long as he settles down. I think he will, but tonight was a flash to the past for him.

Not a WHOLE lot else stood out...Walton, Vujacic, Turiaf had decent but not spectacular games. I also think part of some of these guys' struggles is the fact that it's the FIRST pre-season game and they came to the arena straight from the airport (no stay-over). Clearly there were some cobwebs. Oh well.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

JimmyPage - Did Sasha look like he put on weight, and was he hitting his shots?

Also, what player from Utah stood out to you?
