This year I am going to do the most American thing I can think of: I will avoid family and stay home alone for Thanksgiving.

Unless you are overeating and getting absolutely hammered, it's not American.

Me? I'm going to overeat with my family and then go get absolutely hammered after to get over having to spend that much time with my family.

Now THAT'S American.

Thank you for properly teaching me, master. I am still learning your American ways.

Need to stock up on more alcohol. And still avoid family.

It's really not that hard. Here's the cheat code for being properly American...

Ready?

If any doctor would say that what you're about to do is at best not a good idea, then do it.

It has to be photoshopped, just like the commercials on TV. No sane person would commit such a sin against humanity.

Walking around with one of those on Fairfax or in NY is actually grounds for justifiable homicide.

Okay, now for the other side of the Reuben spectrum. Where's the best one in SoCal?

Just about any decent Jewish deli will have a good one, but Brent's is the way to go with pretty much all things deli.

And yes, I have driven to Northridge for a freaking sandwich.

My man.

I'll go with your rec.

As far as distance for food goes, I've driven to the Oinkster from Anaheim Hills for Burger Week.

My sister lives in MDR next to Jerry's. How does that compare?

Jerry's is to Brent's as Sizzler is to Mastro's.

Well, that might be going a bit far, but not by much.

Never been to Brent's but the reuben at Langers is still the best I've had, New York included.

Langers has the best pastrami (I'd probably put The Hat 2nd) and I have housed my share of #19's, but when it comes to a Reuben, i'm a purist. It has to be corned beef.

It might be the gentile in me but I can substitute out the corned beef for quality pastrami 7 days a week including the sabbath.
